Discover Effortless Aging with Hormone Therapy for Women

There's real substance to the notion that every woman is different. No two person's attitudes, bodies, or goals in life are ever exactly the same. But if there's one thing that every person shares, it's that our bodies change as we get older. That's especially true for females over the age of 50. One day you wake up, roll out of bed, and attack the day with vigor and positivity.

The next day, it seems like your emotions are out of control. Despite dieting and healthy life choices, your weight won't go down. It seems like you're having to deal with uncomfortable hot flashes every other hour of the day. Life can be hard after 50, especially when it seems like your body is plotting against you.

Service Areas

But the truth is, these changes are a completely normal part of the aging process for women. As you might be aware, this change is called menopause, and according to the NIH, more than one million women go through it every year. This change in life marks the end of your period. During this time, your hormones begin to deplete, causing a range of symptoms that can be difficult to deal with without professional help. Some of the most common symptoms of menopause include:

  • Hot Flashes
  • Vaginal Dryness
  • Low Libido or Sexual Desire
  • Mood Swings
  • Lack of Focus
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Chronic Tiredness
  • Increased Body Weight

Trying to juggle and cope with the symptoms of hormone deficiency can be rough for women and their partners because many of them are linked to nutrition, stress, and lack of exercise.

Fortunately, getting older and going through menopause doesn't have to be the worst time in your life. Hormone replacement therapy for women in Winter Park, FL, can help correct the imbalances in your body that are brought on by menopause. HRT Winter Park, FL

How Does Hormone Replacement Therapy for Women Work?

At NV Medical Orlando, our HRT treatments for women include the use of pellets, which are about the size of a tic-tac and contain hormones like estrogen and testosterone. These pellets are implanted subcutaneously to supply your body with the hormones it needs. Each pellet contains a tiny number of bioidentical hormones that are released steadily into your bloodstream for up to five months.

Unlike other sexual health centers, every HRT treatment provided by our women's sexual health clinic is tailored to our patients. While natural hormone replacement therapy is effective for many women, every patient is different. That's why it's important that you speak with a board-certified doctor, like Gina Kirkpatrick, before starting any HRT treatment to make sure it's right for you.

Is HRT for Women in Winter Park, FL, Right for You?

When it comes to the symptoms of menopause, natural estrogen therapy can be incredibly effective for conditions like lack of sleep, weight gain, excessive sweating, mood swings, and more.

In addition to promoting overall health, HRT for women can help reverse sexual symptoms of menopause, like vaginal dryness and general discomfort during intercourse.

When used as part of a comprehensive preventive healthcare plan, HRT can be an invaluable tool for women. That's because hormone therapies like estrogen treatment have been shown in clinical investigations to reduce the risk of serious concerns like osteoporosis and bone loss.

Your HRT Timeline

As we mentioned earlier, no two women will have the same hormone levels or HRT therapy needs. As such, every woman's timeline for menopause relief will be different. Generally, however, a standard HRT timeline may look like this:

week 1

Around week one, many women notice that they experience fewer hot flashes than normal. Some women notice these improvements only a few days after their first treatment.

week 2

After about two to three weeks of HRT for women in Winter Park, FL, many women notice that they have less irritability, anxiety, and fewer mood swings. During this phase, hot flashes should continue diminishing, and sleep may improve. Other benefits of HRT, like increased libido and more energy, are also expected during this phase.

week 3

Starting around weeks three to four, many HRT patients will notice drastic improvements in menopausal symptoms.

week 4

Around weeks five and six, it's common for women to notice physical differences like healthier skin, less hair loss, and even weight loss. With time, these improvements become even more pronounced.

Additional Services for Optimal Female Health

At NV Medical Orlando, we don't only treat our patients for sexual health and wellness. Because Dr. Gina Kirkpatrick is a fellowship-trained urologist, our clinic has the capacity to treat all matters related to sexual health and wellness, including certain urologic conditions.

Rejuvenation

Vaginal Rejuvenation

Have you started to notice that things “down under” are different than they were years ago? Are you experiencing disconcerting symptoms such as:

  • Burning
  • Irritation After Sex
  • Dryness
  • Urinary Incontinence
  • Unfulfilling Intercourse
  • Vaginal Laxity (Lack of Tightness)
  • Diminished Lubrication During Intercourse

If you've noticed any of the above symptoms, you may be dealing with vaginal or pelvic floor laxity. For women dealing with these issues, vaginal rejuvenation often answers their problems. Vaginal rejuvenation is an umbrella term that covers several vaginal corrective procedures. These procedures can correct problems that occur after giving birth or during menopause.

Traditionally, these conditions have been treated with invasive surgeries and with supplements like vaginal estrogen or hyaluronic acid. However, modern treatment options like laser vaginal rejuvenation are growing in popularity and can help women avoid the pitfalls of surgery.

In fact, study centers around the world are using monopolar radiofrequency for vaginal laxity in premenopausal women. Studies show that treatment is safe and helps improve vaginal laxity and other sexual dysfunctions. Additionally, anecdotal evidence shows that patients have less urine leakage when coughing, laughing, sneezing, and exercising.

If you're unsatisfied with the appearance of your vagina or have noticed increased looseness or diminished lubrication, don't lose hope. Vaginal rejuvenation, HRT for women in Winter Park, FL, or a combo of the two may be right for you.

Dryness

Vaginal Dryness

The primary cause of vaginal atrophy or vaginal dryness is the reduction of estrogen. Typically, women lose estrogen during and after menopause. Childbirth and hysterectomy can also be causes that reduce estrogen production. To help women restore natural levels of estrogen, thereby treating vaginal dryness, NV Medical Orlando offers three types of therapies:

Vaginal Therapy

Estrogen cream is applied intravaginally at night to improve vaginal blood flow, lubrication, and elasticity. Alternatively, women can choose s Hyaluronic Acid Vaginal Suppository, which provides hormone-free relief from vaginal dryness. This treatment is best for women who cannot undergo hormone replacement therapy.

Minimally Invasive Vaginal Therapy

Viveve Radiofrequency Technology, which uses cryogen-cooled radio frequencies to heat and cool vaginal tissue, is designed to improve:

  • Blood Flow
  • Vaginal Lubrication
  • Vaginal Laxity
  • Stress Urinary Incontinence

This popular treatment is performed discreetly, is painless, and usually takes less than an hour to complete.

Systemic Therapy

HRT for women in Winter Park, FL, can be administered as oral pills, creams, pellets, or as injections under the skin. The specific type of hormones, their delivery mechanisms, and dosage levels are determined on a patient-by-patient basis after a detailed history, physical exam, and laboratory study.

Low Libido in Women

If you're a woman who finds herself lacking sexual desire or the act of sexual intercourse, you're not alone. In fact, research from 1999 shows that as much as 22% of women in the U.S. report low sex drive. Though this issue is often underreported, its causes and the available treatments are well-known.

Causes of low libido in women include:

Surgery

Hysterectomies often result in a drastic drop of testosterone and estrogen in a woman's body. This drop in hormones has been linked to low libido.

Medications

Some medicines that are used to treat depression and anxiety, specifically SSRIs that inhibit serotonin, have been demonstrated to reduce sexual arousal.

Hormones

Estrogen affects blood flow to vaginal and genital tissues. Reducing estrogen, which can occur during and after menopause, childbirth or surgical menopause created secondary to a hysterectomy can result in reduced vaginal blood flow and lubrication.

Overall Health

Studies on post-menopausal women have demonstrated that patients in poor health report lower sexual desire. In fact, symptoms like chronic pain, fatigue, and mood swings caused by chronic illnesses all contribute to decreased female libido.

Though low libido and the effects of unbalanced hormones can be concerning, treatment is available at NV Medical Orlando. First, a thorough physical exam and health history will be conducted to help our experts develop an optimal treatment plan for you. During your evaluation, you may be asked to complete a questionnaire that helps us assess your symptoms further. That way, we can craft an appropriate treatment regimen to address your symptoms and concerns.

The type of treatment recommended depends on your identified needs and may include hormone replacement therapy for women, vaginal treatments, oral medications, sexual therapies, or additional treatment regimens.

The Premier Choice for FDA-Approved HRT for Women in Winter Park, FL

Morse Boulevard is home to a namesake nightspot that features high-end amenities, sophisticated décor, and some unique local connections.

Morse Code Lounge opened on Oct. 4 at 163 E. Morse Blvd. The elegant, artsy vibe and carefully curated wine list are the combined opus of management teammates Shannon Beaty and Ulrich Stanley Marine (aka U.S. Marine), whose partnership was the result of a serendipitous meeting.

“I’ve been in the car business for most of my career, but I’ve loved wine for about 20 years,” said Marine, who is president of Sutherlin Nissan of Orlando. Fond memories of a three-year stint as a bartender in Tampa, prior to entering his chosen field, inspired a notion to open a bar as a side project. “My three passions are wine, art and cigars – I wanted to bring all of that together in this concept.” The notion became a plan when a friendship was struck with Beaty.

“Back in 2015 I was bartending at Park Plaza Gardens,” said Beaty. “U.S. would come in with friends to enjoy a martini and I usually waited on him.” Meetings became regular and banter became frequent, and the plan was set in motion. “He said, ‘I’m gonna buy a bar and I’m gonna hire you to run it.’”

Beaty was raised in Winter Park and attended Brookshire Elementary School and Winter Park High School. She spent five years as a competitive surfer but grew up around the restaurant business thanks to her father, William, who owned two International House of Pancakes locations and a local watering hole. “I remember the bartenders had shirts that read, ‘The moose is loose at Park Ave. Pub’ because they served Moosehead beer,” she said.

Beaty’s hospitality background coupled with Marine’s business acumen formed the foundation for the business venture. After years of conceptualizing, searching for the right location, and waiting through a pandemic, the idea finally became reality when the Morse Boulevard property was secured through a mutual acquaintance in 2022. The address played a part in the naming, but the focus is personalized service.

“I would identify the style as more of a speakeasy,” Beaty said, adding that the name was partially inspired by the prohibition-era practice of using code words used to enter bars. Passwords and hidden doorways are replaced by membership levels that unlock benefits ranging from special events and discounts to concierge services.

While the entrance is easily accessible, it is tucked just far enough from Park Avenue to inspire an intimate vibe that carries into the venue. High-top tables are set by the window with elegant booths arranged beneath striking art pieces that are on display and for sale in partnership with a short-list of artists that include Roc Demarco and Jamali.

The interior incorporates two of Marine’s passions, but the third takes advantage of an outdoor space meant to provide another level of luxury. “We didn’t want to have cigars inside because not everyone likes them,” said Marine. “So, we went outside to create a full cigar lounge and we have a humidor inside with many cigar offerings.”

Social media posts and word of mouth have made for steady business during the first months, and special events ranging from product releases to live music nights have broadened the range of offerings. Plans are also in the works for a New Year’s Eve masquerade event. For now, Marine and Beaty are keeping the guest experience top of mind while enjoying the success they’ve finally unlocked.

“It all goes back to my love of wine and Shannon’s experience,” Marine said. “It seems like the demand was there and people are definitely excited about it. We’re really proud of what we’ve got here.”

Commentary: Public power was a win-win for my city, and scary ads proved untrue

I was asked my opinion on the efforts in Maine to break away from the current investor-owned utilities and form a publicly owned utility. I was asked my opinion on the efforts in Maine to break away from the current investor-owned utilities and form a publicly owned utility. My answer was, “I don’t know if it’s right for Maine, but I will share Winter Park’s story. It’s a great story.”

There are not a lot of similarities between Maine and the city of Winter Park, Florida. The size, climate, environment, governance structure and accents are quite different. However, the pros and cons of community-owned power are likely the same. To me, the most important question is, “Why do this?” What community benefit is not currently being provided by the investor-owned utility? Communities all over the county have asked themselves that question, and the answers vary. The most common reasons I have seen are rates, reliability, aesthetics, climate change, accountability, or to simply control how and where the profits are invested.

Randy Knight serves as city manager of Winter Park, Fla., appointed by the City Commission. Before becoming city manager in 2007, Knight served as Winter Park’s assistant city manager for 13 years and finance director for three years. He oversaw the city’s 2005 transition from Progress Energy to a municipal utility, Winter Park Electric.

For Winter Park, it was mostly about reliability and aesthetics. Our city is very proud and protective of its tree canopy. Trees and power lines are not a good combination for reliable power. The investor-owned utility would excessively trim the trees to improve reliability, and our residents would complain about the butchering. As a result, the reliability in Winter Park was some of the worst in Florida. We tried to work with the investor-owned utility to put the power lines underground, but they would do so only if the city paid for it. Not an unreasonable response, since they answered to their shareholders and the Public Service Commission, not the residents of Winter Park. There were other factors, such as the investor-owned utility charging Winter Park some of the highest rates in the state and wanting us to sign a new 30-year franchise with no right to purchase and no out clause for poor performance. However, reliability and aesthetics were the main reasons.

After a protracted legal battle over our right to purchase, and after two feasibility studies and arbitration to set the purchase price, the matter was set for a voter referendum. According to their finance filings, the investor-owned utility spent $523,750 on the campaign against the purchase. As you would expect, and have probably already seen in your state, the campaign was filled with strong predictions of failure and potential bankruptcy. The investor-owned utility claimed rates would go up, reliability would go down, there would be slow response to outages, no one would come help after a hurricane, and that we didn’t know anything about an electric utility. The proponents of the purchase simply promised to take the profits that were going to taxes, high corporate salaries and out-of-state shareholders and reinvest them back into to the community.

The referendum was held, and 69% voted in favor of the purchase. Since the purchase, our rates have consistently been lower than those of the predecessor investor-owned utility. Currently, our rates are 35.6% lower than average investor-owned utility rates in our state. We have run over 70% of the system underground and expect to be 100% complete by 2030. Our reliability numbers are 75% better than when we took over, and the need for drastic tree trimming has been eliminated. Our hurricane response has been some of the best in the region. We recently received an upgrade to AA- from Fitch Ratings. Overall, a huge success.

More recently, we have begun investing in renewable energy. We have committed to 20 megawatts of large-scale solar that will come online in the next three years, built several small solar projects on city facilities and recently adopted a Sustainability Action Plan with a goal of 80% renewable energy by 2042.

Winter Park’s success does not guarantee it is right for Maine. My message is simply this: Don’t let the investor-owned utility scare tactics be a deciding factor. Look at your “Why?” and decide if it is worth it. Best wishes!

Cobblestone streets dotted with Michelin-recognized restaurants and locally owned shops, lakes with boat tours, and grassy areas for kids to play tag and fly kites: This is Winter Park, Florida. A hop, skip, and a jump from Orlando’s theme park scene, this town chartered in 1887 thrills in other ways. Its original purpose still holds true: New Englanders founded it as an escape from cold weather. But since that time, the 10-square-mile city has become a year-round destination. Orlando residents love the place, but they can’t keep it a secret anymore. No matter why you’re in the Orlando area, a few days in Winter Park would provide a welcome respite before heading home. In fact, the town has so much going for it, we’d argue that it merits a trip on its own.

Downtown, Park Avenue — where stand-out restaurants and local boutiques dot the brick streets — is the place to be. Just off Park Avenue, Rollins, a small liberal arts college founded 135 years ago, contributes to the town’s robust array of cultural activities. A short walk from downtown lies the waterfront, where six lakes are connected by navigable canals. Ready to plan a trip to this charming city? Here's what you need to know.

Winter Park Hotels

While visitors only have a handful of lodging options in Winter Park, the surrounding area opens up a multitude of possibilities.

Established more than 130 years ago, The Alfond Inn at Rollins is getting better with age. Sprinkled with incredible paintings from the Rollins Art Museum, the recently renovated lobby is a design masterpiece and fosters family togetherness thanks to a variety of seating arrangements and a corner chess set. An expansion, which will add a new spa and a wing to the inn’s current 112 guest rooms, is expected to wrap up by the end of the year. The location, just a few blocks from Park Avenue, is stellar.

With 28 guest rooms — some with original brick walls — the Park Plaza Hotel is the only place to stay on the city’s famed Park Avenue. There are balcony rooms and suites for people-watching.

Best Time to Visit Winter Park

While you’ll have fun no matter when you go to Winter Park, shifts in weather and special programming favor certain months.

Despite its name, the most comfortable season to visit Winter Park is spring — and the earlier, the better. March feels glorious with average high temperatures reaching about 76 degrees Fahrenheit and the lowest humidity of the year. It’s no coincidence that the organizers of the city’s annual Sidewalk Art Festival, which attracts 350,000 visitors, schedule it for March. It’s a little cooler in February and warmer in April, but still pleasant. You won’t find many April showers in Winter Park — April is the second-least rainy month.

The holidays usher in another magical time to explore Winter Park, especially if you’re bringing children. Two big events take place during the first weekend of December. On Friday, “Winter on the Avenue” transforms Central Park into a holiday wonderland, complete with snow slides, s’mores, and strolling carolers. Everyone gathers around for the lighting of the Christmas tree and menorah. The next day, music fills the streets for the Ye Olde Hometown Christmas Parade. A tradition for more than 70 years, the parade’s headliners include marching bands, fire trucks, and Santa Claus. Winter Park’s weather by far outshines the North Pole, with average December highs in the mid-70s.

Families who have to plan their vacations around school calendars and practice schedules may not be able to avoid a summertime visit. Although it’s typically hot, humid, and rainy, scheduling outdoor activities for the morning or evening will make it less likely that Florida’s temperamental summer weather will interfere with your fun.

Where to Eat and Drink

Orlando locals flock to Winter Park for memorable meals — whether they’re bringing the entire family or looking for a romantic table for two. Winter Park serves up a variety of cuisines and vibes at its top food establishments.

At Briarpatch, the most iconic eatery on Park Avenue, locals line up for mimosas and delicious brunch offerings (think: brown butter Belgian waffles and raspberry lemon cream pancakes.) The housemade cakes — carrot, chocolate layer, and red velvet — are as Instagrammable as they are tasty. You can dine al fresco on the outdoor tables overlooking Central Park or opt for the indoor seating; the dining room oozes Southern charm.

Fresh from earning a Michelin star, Soseki, a 10-seat Japanese restaurant, specializes in a divine multi-course dining experience based on the best ingredients that its farmers, fishermen, and cheese purveyors offer.

With husband-and-wife, James Beard-nominated chefs in the kitchen, The Ravenous Pig hits the spot with a variety of apps, hand-helds, innovative cocktails, and other gastropub fare.

If the kids want pizza, Prato is the place for your family. Request a table on the patio (isn’t there something about eating outside that makes kids less wiggly?) and order them a margarita pie to share while you pick one of the other modern Italian dishes made with locally sourced ingredients.

Getting There

Winter Park is easily accessible by car and airplane. You probably won’t use your car much once you’re in town.

If you’re coming from one of Orlando’s theme parks, the ride will be relatively short. Winter Park is about 30 miles north of Disney’s Magic Kingdom and 15 miles north of Universal Florida on I-4. Tampa, Jacksonville, and Melbourne, Florida are all within two hours or so.

The closest airport is Orlando International Airport, which is about a 30-minute drive to Winter Park. Later in 2023, the Brightline Train’s airport station will connect the city with Miami, Boca Raton, West Palm Beach, and Fort Lauderdale. If you can fly into the smaller (and far less crowded) Orlando Sanford International Airport, you’d still only have about a half-hour drive.
