Discover Effortless Aging with Hormone Therapy for Women

There's real substance to the notion that every woman is different. No two person's attitudes, bodies, or goals in life are ever exactly the same. But if there's one thing that every person shares, it's that our bodies change as we get older. That's especially true for females over the age of 50. One day you wake up, roll out of bed, and attack the day with vigor and positivity.

The next day, it seems like your emotions are out of control. Despite dieting and healthy life choices, your weight won't go down. It seems like you're having to deal with uncomfortable hot flashes every other hour of the day. Life can be hard after 50, especially when it seems like your body is plotting against you.

Service Areas

But the truth is, these changes are a completely normal part of the aging process for women. As you might be aware, this change is called menopause, and according to the NIH, more than one million women go through it every year. This change in life marks the end of your period. During this time, your hormones begin to deplete, causing a range of symptoms that can be difficult to deal with without professional help. Some of the most common symptoms of menopause include:

  • Hot Flashes
  • Vaginal Dryness
  • Low Libido or Sexual Desire
  • Mood Swings
  • Lack of Focus
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Chronic Tiredness
  • Increased Body Weight

Trying to juggle and cope with the symptoms of hormone deficiency can be rough for women and their partners because many of them are linked to nutrition, stress, and lack of exercise.

Fortunately, getting older and going through menopause doesn't have to be the worst time in your life. Hormone replacement therapy for women in Thornton Park, FL, can help correct the imbalances in your body that are brought on by menopause. These safe, proven treatments from NV Medical Orlando can help balance your hormones during menopause and even help you reclaim your youth.

 HRT Thornton Park, FL

How Does Hormone Replacement Therapy for Women Work?

At NV Medical Orlando, our HRT treatments for women include the use of pellets, which are about the size of a tic-tac and contain hormones like estrogen and testosterone. These pellets are implanted subcutaneously to supply your body with the hormones it needs. Each pellet contains a tiny number of bioidentical hormones that are released steadily into your bloodstream for up to five months.

Unlike other sexual health centers, every HRT treatment provided by our women's sexual health clinic is tailored to our patients. While natural hormone replacement therapy is effective for many women, every patient is different. That's why it's important that you speak with a board-certified doctor, like Gina Kirkpatrick, before starting any HRT treatment to make sure it's right for you.

Is HRT for Women in Thornton Park, FL, Right for You?

When a woman's hormones are balanced, there's a better chance that she will be able to live a happy, normal life. That's where the beauty of HRT for women begins to unfold because it balances hormones in your body that would otherwise be disrupted due to menopause.

Benefits of Hormone Replacement Therapy for Women in Thornton Park, FL

When it comes to the symptoms of menopause, natural estrogen therapy can be incredibly effective for conditions like lack of sleep, weight gain, excessive sweating, mood swings, and more.

In addition to promoting overall health, HRT for women can help reverse sexual symptoms of menopause, like vaginal dryness and general discomfort during intercourse.

When used as part of a comprehensive preventive healthcare plan, HRT can be an invaluable tool for women. That's because hormone therapies like estrogen treatment have been shown in clinical investigations to reduce the risk of serious concerns like osteoporosis and bone loss.

  • Improved Mood
  • Better Memory
  • Improved Concentration

Your HRT Timeline

As we mentioned earlier, no two women will have the same hormone levels or HRT therapy needs. As such, every woman's timeline for menopause relief will be different. Generally, however, a standard HRT timeline may look like this:

week 1

Around week one, many women notice that they experience fewer hot flashes than normal. Some women notice these improvements only a few days after their first treatment.

week 2

After about two to three weeks of HRT for women in Thornton Park, FL, many women notice that they have less irritability, anxiety, and fewer mood swings. During this phase, hot flashes should continue diminishing, and sleep may improve. Other benefits of HRT, like increased libido and more energy, are also expected during this phase.

week 3

Starting around weeks three to four, many HRT patients will notice drastic improvements in menopausal symptoms.

week 4

Around weeks five and six, it's common for women to notice physical differences like healthier skin, less hair loss, and even weight loss. With time, these improvements become even more pronounced.

Additional Services for Optimal Female Health

At NV Medical Orlando, we don't only treat our patients for sexual health and wellness. Because Dr. Gina Kirkpatrick is a fellowship-trained urologist, our clinic has the capacity to treat all matters related to sexual health and wellness, including certain urologic conditions.

Rejuvenation

Vaginal Rejuvenation

Have you started to notice that things “down under” are different than they were years ago? Are you experiencing disconcerting symptoms such as:

  • Burning
  • Irritation After Sex
  • Dryness
  • Urinary Incontinence
  • Unfulfilling Intercourse
  • Vaginal Laxity (Lack of Tightness)
  • Diminished Lubrication During Intercourse

If you've noticed any of the above symptoms, you may be dealing with vaginal or pelvic floor laxity. For women dealing with these issues, vaginal rejuvenation often answers their problems. Vaginal rejuvenation is an umbrella term that covers several vaginal corrective procedures. These procedures can correct problems that occur after giving birth or during menopause.

Traditionally, these conditions have been treated with invasive surgeries and with supplements like vaginal estrogen or hyaluronic acid. However, modern treatment options like laser vaginal rejuvenation are growing in popularity and can help women avoid the pitfalls of surgery.

In fact, study centers around the world are using monopolar radiofrequency for vaginal laxity in premenopausal women. Studies show that treatment is safe and helps improve vaginal laxity and other sexual dysfunctions. Additionally, anecdotal evidence shows that patients have less urine leakage when coughing, laughing, sneezing, and exercising.

If you're unsatisfied with the appearance of your vagina or have noticed increased looseness or diminished lubrication, don't lose hope. Vaginal rejuvenation, HRT for women in Thornton Park, FL, or a combo of the two may be right for you.

Dryness

Vaginal Dryness

The primary cause of vaginal atrophy or vaginal dryness is the reduction of estrogen. Typically, women lose estrogen during and after menopause. Childbirth and hysterectomy can also be causes that reduce estrogen production. To help women restore natural levels of estrogen, thereby treating vaginal dryness, NV Medical Orlando offers three types of therapies:

Vaginal Therapy

Estrogen cream is applied intravaginally at night to improve vaginal blood flow, lubrication, and elasticity. Alternatively, women can choose s Hyaluronic Acid Vaginal Suppository, which provides hormone-free relief from vaginal dryness. This treatment is best for women who cannot undergo hormone replacement therapy.

Minimally Invasive Vaginal Therapy

Viveve Radiofrequency Technology, which uses cryogen-cooled radio frequencies to heat and cool vaginal tissue, is designed to improve:

  • Blood Flow
  • Vaginal Lubrication
  • Vaginal Laxity
  • Stress Urinary Incontinence

This popular treatment is performed discreetly, is painless, and usually takes less than an hour to complete.

Systemic Therapy

HRT for women in Thornton Park, FL, can be administered as oral pills, creams, pellets, or as injections under the skin. The specific type of hormones, their delivery mechanisms, and dosage levels are determined on a patient-by-patient basis after a detailed history, physical exam, and laboratory study.

Low Libido in Women

If you're a woman who finds herself lacking sexual desire or the act of sexual intercourse, you're not alone. In fact, research from 1999 shows that as much as 22% of women in the U.S. report low sex drive. Though this issue is often underreported, its causes and the available treatments are well-known.

Causes of low libido in women include:

Surgery

Hysterectomies often result in a drastic drop of testosterone and estrogen in a woman's body. This drop in hormones has been linked to low libido.

Medications

Some medicines that are used to treat depression and anxiety, specifically SSRIs that inhibit serotonin, have been demonstrated to reduce sexual arousal.

Hormones

Estrogen affects blood flow to vaginal and genital tissues. Reducing estrogen, which can occur during and after menopause, childbirth or surgical menopause created secondary to a hysterectomy can result in reduced vaginal blood flow and lubrication.

Overall Health

Studies on post-menopausal women have demonstrated that patients in poor health report lower sexual desire. In fact, symptoms like chronic pain, fatigue, and mood swings caused by chronic illnesses all contribute to decreased female libido.

Though low libido and the effects of unbalanced hormones can be concerning, treatment is available at NV Medical Orlando. First, a thorough physical exam and health history will be conducted to help our experts develop an optimal treatment plan for you. During your evaluation, you may be asked to complete a questionnaire that helps us assess your symptoms further. That way, we can craft an appropriate treatment regimen to address your symptoms and concerns.

The type of treatment recommended depends on your identified needs and may include hormone replacement therapy for women, vaginal treatments, oral medications, sexual therapies, or additional treatment regimens.

The 808 in Thornton Park adds Hawaiian tastes to the downtown neighborhood

The scene along East Washington Street in Thornton Park really has changed since the days Dexter's drew see-and-be-seensters to its bastion of upscale-casualdom. The scene along East Washington Street in Thornton Park really has changed since the days Dexter's drew see-and-be-seensters to its bastion of upscale-casualdom. Other restaurants — Midnight Blue and La Fontanella di Nino come to mind — moved into the burgeoning grub street, all with a similar aesthetic, all distant memories. That's just how it goes. I'm not waxing nostalgic or anything — to be honest, I never held Dexter's in the same sentimental regard as others — but the restaurant, situated in a building that was Orlando's first Publix, was an indelible part of the city's culinary history.

Nevertheless, this is not your grandfather's Thornton Park. Not anymore. It's a whole lot younger, and if the restaurants lining the cobblestoned street are any indication, a whole lot more laid back. Ball caps and T-shirts are the norm at Graffiti Junktion, Island Time, Mason Jar Provisions and Cavo's, and their menus aren't too different. Wings, burgers, sandwiches and handhelds appear to hit the sweet spot for the neighborhood's residents (and the financial sweet spot for restaurateurs). So don't come looking for eggplant napoleons or bacon-wrapped meatloaf or any other vestigial remnants from the Dexter's days.

In fact, the Dexter's space is now the 808, a casual Hawaiian-inspired bar-eatery by Todd Ulmer (Stardust Lounge, Aku Aku Tiki Bar) and Wendy Connor (The Abbey), so if it's poke you crave, pop in for a bowl ($15). We took a seat outside on the front patio one lovely evening and dug into a bowl with tobiko-crowned spicy tuna. Not bad. Not my favorite, either (I'm preferential to Island Fin, Poke Hana and Da Kine Poke), though I liked it that a charred red onion graced the bowl alongside a wakame salad, crushed macadamia nuts, edamame and avocado slices drizzled in sambal aioli. I would've hoped for a charred Maui onion but, hey, any kind of onion is good in my book.

What really gave sway to the hula dance in our mouths were the kalua pork sliders ($11). Unfortunately, there's no pig being cooked by lava rocks in a pit out back (those darned city ordinances), yet the juicy shreds served on a trio of King's Hawaiian rolls piled high with bracing pineapple salsa and a five-spice barbecue sauce "broke da mouth" just the same. That's how tasty dishes are described in the Aloha State, and chef Daniel Weber applies that "broke da mouth" label to his chicken sandwich ($11) — his sweet chicken sandwich. No, no peppery fire in this one, but the slather of huli-huli sauce on that crispy chicken lent it a nice teriyaki-like kick.

By now you're probably wondering about Hawaiian steak, aka Spam®. Well, of course they serve it here — in rice bowls, on top of burgers, in plated lunch meals. It comes seared and glazed atop an ingot of compressed rice in the nori-wrapped musubi ($6 for two). Now that's my kinda protein bar, though the double cheeseburger ($11) is a perfectly fine whopper too.

The 808's bill of fare doesn't aim unnecessarily high, nor does it get mired in pretense and frill. The same can be said for a cocktail menu that consciously targets the fruity and refreshing notes patrons would expect of a Hawaiian joint — the Waikiki sunrise ($9) with Tito's, guava nectar and passion fruit liqueur being a prime example. Inside, the restaurant plays up the relaxed Hawaiian motif with surf boards and an impressive photo mural of Kauai on the wall behind the bar.

Oh, in addition to being a part of the restaurant's address, "808" also happens to be the area code of Honolulu, and the 808 celebrated its grand opening on 8/08 (Aug. 8) with hula dancers, the mayor and all. So if you're wondering whether or not the 808 will have the same lasting power as its predecessor, let me say this: Brah, just chill, have a drink, and don't worry about it.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Businesses in downtown Orlando and neighboring areas are preparing for one of the biggest celebrations of the year — New Year’s Eve.

Katie Fazerbaker, the marketing and Events manager for Wall Street Plaza, said this year feels like the first normal year for New Year’s Eve since the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Especially compared to the couple of years prior, the past few years 2020, 2021, it’s more looking like 2019 now and we’re very excited about it,” Fazerbaker said.

Over in Thornton Park, Graffiti Junktion is busy preparing for the neighborhood’s 14th annual New Year’s Eve Street Party — even bringing in some extra help.

“You know we have multiple units for Graffiti Junktion,” Graffiti Junktion President, Greg Peters said. “Lake Mary, College Park and Clermont, a lot of those employees are coming down to work.”

Peters said the Thornton Park Street Party’s ticket sales have gone up by a third compared to 2021.

“Well, we’ve always turned it up every year,” Peters said. “You know COVID we did actually go down, during COVID we actually dropped about 22%.”

Despite staffing shortages throughout the service industry, Graffiti Junktion and Wall Street Plaza said they’re fully staffed and ready to go.

“We’re definitely dealing with a lot of shortage and staffing, but for New Year’s Eve, we’re ready to rock-and-roll and everyone is excited,” Peters said.

Fazerbaker said a lot of their staff has worked there for years and said they’re always happy to come in and help out on the holidays.

“We know we have a very competent staff and we definitely have enough,” Fazerbaker said. “We’re not worried about any shortage of staffing.”

Thornton Park is one of downtown Orlando’s quintessential historic neighborhoods and currently reigns as the epicenter for all things hip. The upscale district, tucked east of Lake Eola Heights and centered on Lake Lawsona along Thornton Avenue, defies suburban clichés. This is one community where you can surprisingly walk just about everywhere, including to your office and local supermarket — unlike the burbs where driving is almost impossible to avoid.

The growing pastiche of folks opting to dwell downtown has found an ideal lifestyle in Thornton Park’s bungalows, exclusive brownstones and towering condominiums. A close-knit collective, the locals support the neighborhood’s eclectic boutiques, like Zou Zou with one-of-a-kind women’s clothing, and stroll the brick-paved streets to meet friends at the landmark Four Rivers fountain for evenings of sipping pinot grigio and dancing in the streets to live music.

When dinner calls, savory bistros like Burton’s Bar, serving old-fashioned grilled burgers piled high with beefsteak tomatoes and Vidalia onion slices, are right there. While the weekend brunch crowd often heads to Dexter’s of Thornton Park for a Monte Cristo waffle sandwich or blackened shrimp and jack cheese grits.

Who wouldn’t want to live in Thornton Park?

HISTORY & HOMES

At the turn of the 20th century, developers like James Thornton were integral in the expansion of several Orlando neighborhoods. It was believed that Thornton resided on James Street, which was named after him in 1913, along with other thoroughfares — Thornton Avenue and Thornton Lane. In 1915 the namesake neighborhood became Thornton Park.

When the first segment of Interstate 4 opened to traffic in 1959, it stirred a downtown exodus. More people gravitated towards the suburbs and Lake Eola Park became a refuge for prostitutes and drug addicts. But by 1970, a revitalization inspired the beginning of an arts environment. Lake Eola Park was redesigned including the opening of the Walt Disney Amphitheater and the establishment of the annual Orlando Shakespeare Festival. Through the 1990s, a building boom continued and downtown’s core was nearly complete.

Today, people remain the essence of Thornton Park. Long-term residents who reside in historic Florida-style bungalows blend with a legion of artisans, entrepreneurs and young couples seeking a neighborhood whose bedrock is convenience. These cozy cottages and intimate abodes are often flanked by verandas and floral gardens complemented by seasonal ivy and ferns. Most of the homes were constructed between 1880 and 1930, but many have been modified by owners who have enjoyed decades of privacy and shade offered by the stately oaks that line the streets.

Dee Bendowski is a 26-year resident of Thornton Park, which she affirms is convenient for all her needs. “I live right across from Lake Lawsona and love these old houses and all my neighbors,” says Bendowski, who is an 83-year-old widow. “Me and my husband used to spend afternoons just sitting on the front porch and watching wildlife on the lake.”

Logan Lamphere relocated to Thornton Park from Jacksonville five years ago. Originally from South Dakota, the IT consultant also lives in a bungalow where he turned his attic into a guest room. Lamphere, who has a global perspective on residential living thanks to his travels and work, admits that he was initially misled about Orange County.

“I thought Orlando was just a ring of hotels surrounding Disney. I didn’t realize that there was actually a city, and within that city were historic neighborhoods like Thornton Park,” says Lamphere.

“There are so few places in the United States where you can live in such neat little houses close to the downtown area, and I just love being able to walk downtown to places like Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts and Lake Eola,” he adds.

For many professional transplants scoping the area, the newly developed Brownstones at Thornton Park are also quite attractive. Promoted as having the “look and feel” of traditional New York City brownstones, the townhomes come complete with sleek, wrought iron metalwork, entryway stoops, rooftop terraces and rear-access alleyways and garages. Among the allure is not only their sophisticated design but close proximity to Orlando’s financial district. It’s also adjacent to Constitution Green Park, a recently purchased historic parcel of land that is home to Orlando’s most majestic oak trees estimated to stand 175 feet tall.

NEIGHBORLY FUN

The Thornton Park Neighborhood Association (TPNA) loosely governs the surroundings and organizes such events as the Annual Yard Sale, Easter Egg Hunt and The Taste of Thornton Park — an annual fundraising event that solicits the participation of area merchants. The food and wine event, which is always a sell-out, was organized in 1999 specifically to raise enough money to purchase Thornton Park’s signature fountain.

The Baroque-style stone and tile fountain is located at the intersection of Washington Street and Hyer Avenue and is a replica of an existing fountain in Europe, which is 25 times its size. John Moore served as project manager for the endeavor that raised over $17,000 for the fountain.

To this day, Moore, who is the treasurer of the TPNA, continues to care for the fountain and has been a proud Thornton Park resident since 1978. “I lived in Altamonte Springs when I was in my 20s and I hated driving downtown to go to work,” says Moore who previously worked for Mutual of Omaha on Orange Avenue.

“In Thornton Park, you don’t need a vehicle, and you can walk almost anywhere. It’s convenient, I like all our neighbors, and we all watch out for each other. I don’t think other communities can say that,” adds Moore.

In 2012, Thornton Park District (TBD) was awarded a Main Street Program, and received financial and technical assistance from the National Main Street Center, which is aimed at supporting the neighborhood’s revitalization efforts and improving the quality of life. An entity separate from the neighborhood association, TBD markets Thornton Park as a “Downtown for Grownups.”

Gatherings with food, drink and music that draw the community together include the 2nd Thursday Wine & Art Walk Call to Artists and Friday Rock Around the Bricks. These rotating events have made Thornton Park’s commercial area a destination for nightlife, attracting adults from all parts of Orlando and reinforcing the message that if you live in Thornton Park, you never have to leave your neighborhood — even for a night on the town.
