Discover Effortless Aging with Hormone Therapy for Women

There's real substance to the notion that every woman is different. No two person's attitudes, bodies, or goals in life are ever exactly the same. But if there's one thing that every person shares, it's that our bodies change as we get older. That's especially true for females over the age of 50. One day you wake up, roll out of bed, and attack the day with vigor and positivity.

The next day, it seems like your emotions are out of control. Despite dieting and healthy life choices, your weight won't go down. It seems like you're having to deal with uncomfortable hot flashes every other hour of the day. Life can be hard after 50, especially when it seems like your body is plotting against you.

Service Areas

But the truth is, these changes are a completely normal part of the aging process for women. As you might be aware, this change is called menopause, and according to the NIH, more than one million women go through it every year. This change in life marks the end of your period. During this time, your hormones begin to deplete, causing a range of symptoms that can be difficult to deal with without professional help. Some of the most common symptoms of menopause include:

  • Hot Flashes
  • Vaginal Dryness
  • Low Libido or Sexual Desire
  • Mood Swings
  • Lack of Focus
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Chronic Tiredness
  • Increased Body Weight

Trying to juggle and cope with the symptoms of hormone deficiency can be rough for women and their partners because many of them are linked to nutrition, stress, and lack of exercise.

Fortunately, getting older and going through menopause doesn't have to be the worst time in your life. Hormone replacement therapy for women in St Cloud, FL, can help correct the imbalances in your body that are brought on by menopause. How Does Hormone Replacement Therapy for Women Work?

At NV Medical Orlando, our HRT treatments for women include the use of pellets, which are about the size of a tic-tac and contain hormones like estrogen and testosterone. These pellets are implanted subcutaneously to supply your body with the hormones it needs. Each pellet contains a tiny number of bioidentical hormones that are released steadily into your bloodstream for up to five months.

Unlike other sexual health centers, every HRT treatment provided by our women's sexual health clinic is tailored to our patients. While natural hormone replacement therapy is effective for many women, every patient is different. That's why it's important that you speak with a board-certified doctor, like Gina Kirkpatrick, before starting any HRT treatment to make sure it's right for you.

Your HRT Timeline

As we mentioned earlier, no two women will have the same hormone levels or HRT therapy needs. As such, every woman's timeline for menopause relief will be different. Generally, however, a standard HRT timeline may look like this:

week 1

Around week one, many women notice that they experience fewer hot flashes than normal. Some women notice these improvements only a few days after their first treatment.

week 2

After about two to three weeks of HRT for women in St Cloud, FL, many women notice that they have less irritability, anxiety, and fewer mood swings. During this phase, hot flashes should continue diminishing, and sleep may improve. Other benefits of HRT, like increased libido and more energy, are also expected during this phase.

week 3

Starting around weeks three to four, many HRT patients will notice drastic improvements in menopausal symptoms.

week 4

Around weeks five and six, it's common for women to notice physical differences like healthier skin, less hair loss, and even weight loss. With time, these improvements become even more pronounced.

Additional Services for Optimal Female Health

At NV Medical Orlando, we don't only treat our patients for sexual health and wellness. Because Dr. Gina Kirkpatrick is a fellowship-trained urologist, our clinic has the capacity to treat all matters related to sexual health and wellness, including certain urologic conditions.

Rejuvenation

Vaginal Rejuvenation

Have you started to notice that things “down under” are different than they were years ago? Are you experiencing disconcerting symptoms such as:

  • Burning
  • Irritation After Sex
  • Dryness
  • Urinary Incontinence
  • Unfulfilling Intercourse
  • Vaginal Laxity (Lack of Tightness)
  • Diminished Lubrication During Intercourse

If you've noticed any of the above symptoms, you may be dealing with vaginal or pelvic floor laxity. For women dealing with these issues, vaginal rejuvenation often answers their problems. Vaginal rejuvenation is an umbrella term that covers several vaginal corrective procedures. These procedures can correct problems that occur after giving birth or during menopause.

Traditionally, these conditions have been treated with invasive surgeries and with supplements like vaginal estrogen or hyaluronic acid. However, modern treatment options like laser vaginal rejuvenation are growing in popularity and can help women avoid the pitfalls of surgery.

In fact, study centers around the world are using monopolar radiofrequency for vaginal laxity in premenopausal women. Studies show that treatment is safe and helps improve vaginal laxity and other sexual dysfunctions. Additionally, anecdotal evidence shows that patients have less urine leakage when coughing, laughing, sneezing, and exercising.

If you're unsatisfied with the appearance of your vagina or have noticed increased looseness or diminished lubrication, don't lose hope. Vaginal rejuvenation, HRT for women in St Cloud, FL, or a combo of the two may be right for you.

Dryness

Vaginal Dryness

The primary cause of vaginal atrophy or vaginal dryness is the reduction of estrogen. Typically, women lose estrogen during and after menopause. Childbirth and hysterectomy can also be causes that reduce estrogen production. To help women restore natural levels of estrogen, thereby treating vaginal dryness, NV Medical Orlando offers three types of therapies:

Vaginal Therapy

Estrogen cream is applied intravaginally at night to improve vaginal blood flow, lubrication, and elasticity. Alternatively, women can choose s Hyaluronic Acid Vaginal Suppository, which provides hormone-free relief from vaginal dryness. This treatment is best for women who cannot undergo hormone replacement therapy.

Minimally Invasive Vaginal Therapy

Viveve Radiofrequency Technology, which uses cryogen-cooled radio frequencies to heat and cool vaginal tissue, is designed to improve:

  • Blood Flow
  • Vaginal Lubrication
  • Vaginal Laxity
  • Stress Urinary Incontinence

This popular treatment is performed discreetly, is painless, and usually takes less than an hour to complete.

Systemic Therapy

HRT for women in St Cloud, FL, can be administered as oral pills, creams, pellets, or as injections under the skin. The specific type of hormones, their delivery mechanisms, and dosage levels are determined on a patient-by-patient basis after a detailed history, physical exam, and laboratory study.

Low Libido in Women

If you're a woman who finds herself lacking sexual desire or the act of sexual intercourse, you're not alone. In fact, research from 1999 shows that as much as 22% of women in the U.S. report low sex drive. Though this issue is often underreported, its causes and the available treatments are well-known.

Causes of low libido in women include:

Surgery

Hysterectomies often result in a drastic drop of testosterone and estrogen in a woman's body. This drop in hormones has been linked to low libido.

Medications

Some medicines that are used to treat depression and anxiety, specifically SSRIs that inhibit serotonin, have been demonstrated to reduce sexual arousal.

Hormones

Estrogen affects blood flow to vaginal and genital tissues. Reducing estrogen, which can occur during and after menopause, childbirth or surgical menopause created secondary to a hysterectomy can result in reduced vaginal blood flow and lubrication.

Overall Health

Studies on post-menopausal women have demonstrated that patients in poor health report lower sexual desire. In fact, symptoms like chronic pain, fatigue, and mood swings caused by chronic illnesses all contribute to decreased female libido.

Though low libido and the effects of unbalanced hormones can be concerning, treatment is available at NV Medical Orlando. First, a thorough physical exam and health history will be conducted to help our experts develop an optimal treatment plan for you. During your evaluation, you may be asked to complete a questionnaire that helps us assess your symptoms further. That way, we can craft an appropriate treatment regimen to address your symptoms and concerns.

The type of treatment recommended depends on your identified needs and may include hormone replacement therapy for women, vaginal treatments, oral medications, sexual therapies, or additional treatment regimens.

No one would have blamed Brock Purdy for getting discouraged after he was the last player selected in the 2022 National Football League draft. Historically, the last draft pick's chances of having a meaningful NFL career are so low the person gets shackled with the nickname, "Mr. Irrelevant."

Purdy has turned out to be very relevant. He's the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, who will be facing the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl this Sunday.

Purdy's perseverance may be a trait he inherited from his father, Shawn Purdy, a former student and baseball player at what is now known as Indian River State College.

Shawn Purdy said Mike Easom, IRSC's longtime baseball coach, often stressed the importance of toughness in the face of adversity. Purdy tried to pass along similar messages to Brock and his other two children.

'Be a winner, not a whiner'

"What I learned from Coach Easom is there's no room for complaining because nobody cares," Shawn Purdy told me during a telephone interview from his Arizona home last week. "I've always put that to my boys: Be a winner, not a whiner."

Shawn Purdy was born in St. Petersburg, then grew up in St. Cloud, a small community about 20 miles south of Orlando.

After high school, he attended and played baseball at what is now known as Valencia College. Then he spent a year at IRSC, living at Molnar Village in Fort Pierce, before transferring to the University of Miami.

Shawn Purdy was a pitcher, who played eight seasons after college for various minor league teams, finishing his professional career with a respectable 58-37 won-lost record and a 3.91 earned run average.

IRSC was Shawn Purdy's first stint away from home

He settled in Arizona during his playing days and has remained there to raise his family. His time at IRSC isn't forgotten, though.

"It was my first year away from home," Purdy said. "It was an absolutely wonderful experience."

Purdy had served as disc jockey at parties and weddings while in high school and at Valencia, so he decided to major in communications at IRSC.

Although he only spent a year there, Purdy said he was impressed with Easom's commitment to discipline, positivity and leadership.

"He was a straight shooter," Purdy said. "I loved that."

Coach Easom speaks admiringly of former player

Easom remembers Purdy fondly, too, describing his former ace pitcher as "a first-class guy, all the way."

Easom spent 31 years as IRSC's baseball coach, with the team winning nine conference championships and four state championships during his tenure. Easom's IRSC teams also made two appearances in the National Junior College Athletic Association World Series.

Easom said he's still in communication with Purdy from time to time. Last year, for example, Purdy congratulated Easom by phone after IRSC named its baseball field in the former coach's honor.

In a phone interview, Easom spoke highly of Purdy's competitiveness and character.

"He was a heck of a pitcher," Easom said. "He was a really good guy."

In addition to his on-the-field talents, Easom said he trusted Purdy enough to let him babysit his kids.

Easom remembered one game in particular, against Palm Beach State College, in which Purdy played a major role. Due to a scheduling quirk, IRSC had been off for a week before that game and was scheduled to be off another week after the game, so Easom decided to keep his starting pitcher in the game as long as possible.

"He pitched, like, 11 innings," said Easom, now 77. "He ended up losing the game when the right fielder let a ball go through his legs."

If it's the same game my eagle-eyed colleague Larry Reisman found while going through old newspaper clippings, the game actually went 12 innings and Purdy gave up two unearned runs in the 2-1 loss.

Purdy: 'Better than anybody else'

Easom offered a simple explanation for why he let Purdy throw about 150 pitches in that game, which is considered a high pitch count.

"He was a durable guy with a strong arm," Easom said. Even fatigued, Purdy "was better than anybody else I could have put out there."

Purdy's college baseball career highlights also included a 1989 trip to what was then the Soviet Union to play exhibitions for the University of Miami.

Easom said he hasn't met Brock Purdy, who seems to have inherited his father's strong arm and winning attitude.

"If I look at (photos of) him, he looks just like his dad," Easom said.

Shawn Purdy said both Brock and his brother, Chubba, a college football player, train during the offseason at Tork Sports Performance in St. Augustine. The family also makes trips to St. Cloud a couple of times a year to do some bass fishing and visit with relatives.

"My boys love Florida," said Shawn Purdy, who owns Fantastic Spa Outlet in Mesa, Arizona, along with his wife, Carrie.

Shawn Purdy said he won't offer Brock any special words of advice before Sunday's game, except to have fun.

At this point, it seems like the father has already passed along what his son needed to succeed.

ST. CLOUD, Fla. — Osceola County leaders are moving forward with plans to review a joint planning agreement with the city of St. Cloud, in an attempt to address concerns over funding for road improvements.

What You Need To Know

Some Osceola leaders say they don't think St. Cloud is paying its fair share.

St. Cloud released a statement Thursday saying: “It was surprising to hear the comments made at a recent county meeting regarding the joint planning agreement.”

Currently, the city has reached out to the county to create a joint mobility fee to help address all roads in the JPA regardless of jurisdiction. Many residents in St. Cloud say it’s no secret that the city's growth is outpacing the current infrastructure.

In downtown St. Cloud, you can hear an odd machine making what sounds like a drill. No screws are being installed though. The noise is coming from a clicker press inside Jerry Brown’s downtown The Gun Store, where a machine is cutting leather for holsters.

While it’s guns, ammunition, and holsters on Brown's shelves, it’s something unrelated he often shops for on someone else’s.

As he opens his fridge you’ll see two containers of the same thing: coffee creamer — or as Brown calls it, “nectar of the gods.”

It’s not just any coffee creamer, it’s amaretto flavored, and because he doesn't want to deal with St. Cloud traffic, Brown usually looks for it online.

“I go online and I search for it,” Brown said. “I check inventory at Walmart, Publix, Winn Dixie, Walmart Market place, Walmart in Lake Nona.”

He said that with the traffic and lack of roads to get in and out of St. Cloud, it is a pain in the neck to drive the three miles from his home to Walmart. Brown said that the six minute trip takes more like 20 minutes.

So instead, Brown drives to Lake Nona, which is eight miles away — but only six or seven minutes by car — to shop.

With constant growth and development in St. Cloud, the city hired a consultant to ensure the city’s maps and plans are updated to support a robust and safe muti-model transportation network in the future.

“The county approves the developments on a massive scale, and there is no infrastructure to funnel the traffic in and out,” Brown said. “Ten thousand home developments are here, the roads are not yet built.”

Brown said he believes the county and city have to work together — which is something representatives from both entities say their goal as well.

St. Cloud leaders told Spectrum News that even though they are not legally required to contribute to funding county roads, the city was looking out for their citizens by helping pay for county roads.

The joint mobility fee study is expecting to be ready in March, and officials say updated fees will be likely follow.

Spectrum is the best internet service provider for most addresses in St. Cloud. Our methodology

CNET considers speeds, pricing, customer service and overall value to recommend the best internet service in St. Cloud across several categories. Our evaluation includes referencing a proprietary database built over years of reviewing internet services. We validate that against provider information by spot-checking local addresses for service availability. We also do a close read of providers' terms and conditions and, when needed, will call ISPs to verify the details.

Despite our efforts to find the most recent and accurate information, our process has some limitations you should know about. Pricing and speed data are variable: certain addresses may qualify for different service tiers, and monthly costs may vary, even within a city. The best way to identify your particular options is to plug your address into a provider's website.

Also, the prices, speed and other information listed above and in the provider cards below may differ from what we found in our research. The cards display the full range of a provider's pricing and speed across the US, according to our database of plan information provided directly by ISPs. At the same time, the text is specific to what’s available in St. Cloud. The prices referenced within this article's text come from our research and include applicable discounts for setting up automatic payments each month -- a standard industry offering. Other discounts and promotions might also be available for things like signing a term contract or bundling with multiple services.

How to find internet deals and promotions in St. Cloud

The best internet deals and top promotions in St. Cloud depend on what discounts are available during that period. Most deals are short-lived, but we look frequently for the latest offers.

St. Cloud internet providers, such as Spectrum and Xfinity, may offer lower introductory pricing or streaming add-ons for a limited time. Others, however, such as Quantum Fiber and Verizon, run the same standard pricing year-round.

What’s a good internet speed?

Most internet connection plans can now handle basic productivity and communication tasks. If you're looking for an internet plan that can accommodate videoconferencing, streaming video or gaming, you'll have a better experience with a more robust connection. Here's an overview of the recommended minimum download speeds for various applications, according to the FCC. Note that these are only guidelines -- and that internet speed, service and performance vary by connection type, provider and address.

For more information, refer to our guide on how much internet speed you really need.

How CNET chose the best internet providers in St. Cloud

Internet service providers are numerous and regional. Unlike the latest smartphone, laptop, router or kitchen tool, it’s impractical to personally test every ISP in a given city. So what’s our approach? We start by researching the pricing, availability and speed information, drawing on our own historical ISP data, the provider sites and mapping information from the Federal Communications Commission at FCC.gov.

But it doesn’t end there. We go to the FCC’s website to check our data and ensure we consider every ISP that provides service in an area. We also input local addresses on provider websites to find specific options for residents. We look at sources, including the American Customer Satisfaction Index and J.D. Power, to evaluate how happy customers are with an ISP’s service. ISP plans and prices are subject to frequent changes; all information provided is accurate as of publication.

Once we have this localized information, we ask three main questions:

While the answer to those questions is often layered and complex, the providers who come closest to “yes” on all three are the ones we recommend. When selecting the cheapest internet service, we look for the plans with the lowest monthly fee, though we also factor in things like price increases, equipment fees and contracts. Choosing the fastest internet service is relatively straightforward. We look at advertised upload and download speeds and also consider real-world speed data from sources like Ookla and FCC reports.

To explore our process in more depth, visit our how we test ISPs page.

Banking on interest to soar, the city of St. Cloud has approved sending a plan for seaplane docks on East Lake Toho to Florida Department of Transportation’s aviation branch for its blessings.

At a Nov. 9 meeting, city council members unanimously agreed to move forward with the plan at Lakefront Park that has been many years in the making.

The upfront cost is expected to be over $3 million, up from initial estimates in 2019 of $375,000, an increase attributed to inflation. No funds have been identified for the project, according to city officials, though it is eligible to apply for grants.

“That cost would include the construction of seaplane docks, possibly purchasing a fuel truck and also having a lighted wind cone,” said Michael Kotlow, a senior aviation planner for AVCON who was hired by the city as a consultant last year to plan the project.

The master plan includes future administration buildings and fueling stations on the eastern side of the 5-mile-diameter lake near Rummell Road as the city gauges interest, a factor Kotlow said is likely to come.

He points to the city of Tavares, which boomed after a seaplane station was built 10 years ago.

“Depending on what the interest is, we know in Tavares they have a great number of seaplane operations and development,” Kotlow said. “We also know when looking at Tavares and what goes on there at their seaplane facility and attracting additional development in combination with what you’re trying to do at Lakeshore Park, we think this is a good idea to pursue.”

While the city council unanimously approved the master plan, which does not bind the city to follow the plan, some members had hesitation over the site location.

Council member Linette Matheny said she wants the project to include a way for seaplane users to get from Lakefront Park to downtown St. Cloud, a roughly 1 mile distance. Matheny said St. Cloud’s proposed seaplane park is much further from downtown compared to Tavares Seaplane Marina, which is in its downtown corridor.

Deputy Mayor Kolby Urban agreed with Matheny and said he still needed convincing on the seaplane park.

“I understand our approval was just for the legislative process but I believe we should prioritize other things at this time,” Urban told the Orlando Sentinel.

Residents shared similar sentiments at previous city council meetings and on social media. Some oppose the seaplane docking station, citing noise and increase in traffic in an already-congested area.

Lifelong St.Cloud resident Tom Lord said he visits Lakefront Park with his family at least every month and has knocked on doors of everyone who lives in front of the park.

“Not one single resident that lives off Lakeshore Drive wants that thing or the development that comes along with it, now that’s the main thing,” Lord said. “A lot of people come from all parts of Central Florida to come to our lakefront because it’s quiet; it’s serene. You can see wildlife.”

Lord said Lakefront Park’s proximity to downtown may not provide the economic benefit all are hoping for.

“They have this idea that they’re going to create this economic boom like they have in Tavares because of Tavares’ seaplane base but you look at the geography between the two towns and you look at St. Cloud and you look at Tavares they’re not even comparable,” Lord said. “Our lakefront is a residential area for the most part. You have 10 city blocks before you get to the downtown area. In Tavares … if you get off the seaplane, you’re right there in the downtown area.”

The city council will hold a final public hearing for the seaplane project on Dec. 14.

With the approval of the masterplan, the city can apply for grants from FDOT’s aviation branch.

Like all master plans, it is simply a blueprint for potential future growth if funding is available and the demand is there,” spokesperson Maryemma Bachelder said in an email. “At this time, no funds are allocated.”
