Discover Effortless Aging with Hormone Therapy for Women

There's real substance to the notion that every woman is different. No two person's attitudes, bodies, or goals in life are ever exactly the same. But if there's one thing that every person shares, it's that our bodies change as we get older. That's especially true for females over the age of 50. One day you wake up, roll out of bed, and attack the day with vigor and positivity.

The next day, it seems like your emotions are out of control. Despite dieting and healthy life choices, your weight won't go down. It seems like you're having to deal with uncomfortable hot flashes every other hour of the day. Life can be hard after 50, especially when it seems like your body is plotting against you.

But the truth is, these changes are a completely normal part of the aging process for women. As you might be aware, this change is called menopause, and according to the NIH, more than one million women go through it every year. This change in life marks the end of your period. During this time, your hormones begin to deplete, causing a range of symptoms that can be difficult to deal with without professional help. Some of the most common symptoms of menopause include:

  • Hot Flashes
  • Vaginal Dryness
  • Low Libido or Sexual Desire
  • Mood Swings
  • Lack of Focus
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Chronic Tiredness
  • Increased Body Weight

Trying to juggle and cope with the symptoms of hormone deficiency can be rough for women and their partners because many of them are linked to nutrition, stress, and lack of exercise.

How Does Hormone Replacement Therapy for Women Work?

At NV Medical Orlando, our HRT treatments for women include the use of pellets, which are about the size of a tic-tac and contain hormones like estrogen and testosterone. These pellets are implanted subcutaneously to supply your body with the hormones it needs. Each pellet contains a tiny number of bioidentical hormones that are released steadily into your bloodstream for up to five months.

Unlike other sexual health centers, every HRT treatment provided by our women's sexual health clinic is tailored to our patients. While natural hormone replacement therapy is effective for many women, every patient is different. That's why it's important that you speak with a board-certified doctor, like Gina Kirkpatrick, before starting any HRT treatment to make sure it's right for you.

Your HRT Timeline

As we mentioned earlier, no two women will have the same hormone levels or HRT therapy needs. As such, every woman's timeline for menopause relief will be different. Generally, however, a standard HRT timeline may look like this:

week 1

Around week one, many women notice that they experience fewer hot flashes than normal. Some women notice these improvements only a few days after their first treatment.

week 2

After about two to three weeks of HRT for women in Christmas, FL, many women notice that they have less irritability, anxiety, and fewer mood swings. During this phase, hot flashes should continue diminishing, and sleep may improve. Other benefits of HRT, like increased libido and more energy, are also expected during this phase.

week 3

Starting around weeks three to four, many HRT patients will notice drastic improvements in menopausal symptoms.

week 4

Around weeks five and six, it's common for women to notice physical differences like healthier skin, less hair loss, and even weight loss. With time, these improvements become even more pronounced.

Additional Services for Optimal Female Health

At NV Medical Orlando, we don't only treat our patients for sexual health and wellness. Because Dr. Gina Kirkpatrick is a fellowship-trained urologist, our clinic has the capacity to treat all matters related to sexual health and wellness, including certain urologic conditions.

Rejuvenation

Vaginal Rejuvenation

Have you started to notice that things “down under” are different than they were years ago? Are you experiencing disconcerting symptoms such as:

  • Burning
  • Irritation After Sex
  • Dryness
  • Urinary Incontinence
  • Unfulfilling Intercourse
  • Vaginal Laxity (Lack of Tightness)
  • Diminished Lubrication During Intercourse

If you've noticed any of the above symptoms, you may be dealing with vaginal or pelvic floor laxity. For women dealing with these issues, vaginal rejuvenation often answers their problems. Vaginal rejuvenation is an umbrella term that covers several vaginal corrective procedures. These procedures can correct problems that occur after giving birth or during menopause.

Traditionally, these conditions have been treated with invasive surgeries and with supplements like vaginal estrogen or hyaluronic acid. However, modern treatment options like laser vaginal rejuvenation are growing in popularity and can help women avoid the pitfalls of surgery.

In fact, study centers around the world are using monopolar radiofrequency for vaginal laxity in premenopausal women. Studies show that treatment is safe and helps improve vaginal laxity and other sexual dysfunctions. Additionally, anecdotal evidence shows that patients have less urine leakage when coughing, laughing, sneezing, and exercising.

If you're unsatisfied with the appearance of your vagina or have noticed increased looseness or diminished lubrication, don't lose hope. Vaginal rejuvenation, HRT for women in Christmas, FL, or a combo of the two may be right for you.

Dryness

Vaginal Dryness

The primary cause of vaginal atrophy or vaginal dryness is the reduction of estrogen. Typically, women lose estrogen during and after menopause. Childbirth and hysterectomy can also be causes that reduce estrogen production. To help women restore natural levels of estrogen, thereby treating vaginal dryness, NV Medical Orlando offers three types of therapies:

Vaginal Therapy

Estrogen cream is applied intravaginally at night to improve vaginal blood flow, lubrication, and elasticity. Alternatively, women can choose s Hyaluronic Acid Vaginal Suppository, which provides hormone-free relief from vaginal dryness. This treatment is best for women who cannot undergo hormone replacement therapy.

Minimally Invasive Vaginal Therapy

Viveve Radiofrequency Technology, which uses cryogen-cooled radio frequencies to heat and cool vaginal tissue, is designed to improve:

  • Blood Flow
  • Vaginal Lubrication
  • Vaginal Laxity
  • Stress Urinary Incontinence

This popular treatment is performed discreetly, is painless, and usually takes less than an hour to complete.

Systemic Therapy

HRT for women in Christmas, FL, can be administered as oral pills, creams, pellets, or as injections under the skin. The specific type of hormones, their delivery mechanisms, and dosage levels are determined on a patient-by-patient basis after a detailed history, physical exam, and laboratory study.

Low Libido in Women

If you're a woman who finds herself lacking sexual desire or the act of sexual intercourse, you're not alone. In fact, research from 1999 shows that as much as 22% of women in the U.S. report low sex drive. Though this issue is often underreported, its causes and the available treatments are well-known.

Causes of low libido in women include:

Surgery

Hysterectomies often result in a drastic drop of testosterone and estrogen in a woman's body. This drop in hormones has been linked to low libido.

Medications

Some medicines that are used to treat depression and anxiety, specifically SSRIs that inhibit serotonin, have been demonstrated to reduce sexual arousal.

Hormones

Estrogen affects blood flow to vaginal and genital tissues. Reducing estrogen, which can occur during and after menopause, childbirth or surgical menopause created secondary to a hysterectomy can result in reduced vaginal blood flow and lubrication.

Overall Health

Studies on post-menopausal women have demonstrated that patients in poor health report lower sexual desire. In fact, symptoms like chronic pain, fatigue, and mood swings caused by chronic illnesses all contribute to decreased female libido.

Though low libido and the effects of unbalanced hormones can be concerning, treatment is available at NV Medical Orlando. First, a thorough physical exam and health history will be conducted to help our experts develop an optimal treatment plan for you. During your evaluation, you may be asked to complete a questionnaire that helps us assess your symptoms further. That way, we can craft an appropriate treatment regimen to address your symptoms and concerns.

The type of treatment recommended depends on your identified needs and may include hormone replacement therapy for women, vaginal treatments, oral medications, sexual therapies, or additional treatment regimens.

When a small Florida town sports an iconic name like “Christmas,” you can imagine why it draws throngs of visitors during December. Some people simply seek a “Christmas, FL” postmark on the envelopes of their holiday cards. Others want to check out the holiday festivities packing the town’s events calendar.

But guess what? You don’t need to squeeze in all the small-town fun during December. Located in Orange County about 25 miles east of Orlando, this Central Florida town has a holiday mindset year-round, with an origin story to thank for its namesake. Here’s why you should visit this quaint town, even for a quick trip, any time of year.

It's full of landmarks with festive names like Comet and Cupid (Street).

The town long ago embraced its Christmas heritage and, as the community grew, started naming its streets in festive fashion. As you drive around this mostly rural community, you’ll see holiday-themed street names ranging from the religious (think Matthew St. and Luke St.) to the cultural (like Comet St. and Blitzen Ave.).

You can send mail with a "Christmas, FL" postmark.

If you visit in November or December, bring your stack of holiday cards and packages to the town’s tiny post office for that coveted “Christmas, FL” postmark. It adds a festive flair to your mail and is guaranteed to bring a smile to recipients’ faces when they notice the special stamp. Little ones can drop off their letters to Mr. Claus in a special Santa mailbox (no-postage-required), with Santa’s helpers responding to as many as they can. Over the years, Santa even made sporadic appearances at the post office during the holiday season, much to the delight of customers who happened to be onsite during the surprise visits.

There's a Christmas tree on display all year long.

If you’re looking for the holiday spirit beyond December, take a ride past the intersection of State Road 50 and Fort Christmas Road. Here, you’ll see a larger-than-life, fully decorated Christmas tree permanently infusing the spirit of Christmas every day. Santa and his sleigh—along with a nativity scene—round out the festive, street-side display. For years, a local family has maintained and decorated the tree, tapping into community donations to help defray the costs.

It's surrounded by thousands of acres of marshland.

Beyond its holiday-themed charm, Christmas offers plenty of natural beauty and fun pitstops. Spend a glorious few hours in Orlando Wetlands Park, a 1650-acre marsh habitat oasis with winding trails perfect for hiking, birding, biking, and horseback riding. Book a unique airboat tour from several area vendors for an on-the-water view of the gorgeous St. Johns River. And go boating, hiking, or fishing in the picturesque Tosohatchee Wildlife Management Area—a terrific birding spot on the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail.

There's a replica of a 19th-century fort.

Back in the 1830s, when Florida was still a frontier, U.S. soldiers were in the midst of the Second Seminole Indian War (1835-1842). On December 25, 1837, soldiers began building a fort, with its name of “Fort Christmas” as a nod to the Christian holiday. Located a mile from the original location, Fort Christmas Historical Park recreates 19th-century Florida for visitors today. This 25-acre park features a full-scale replica of the fort along with a collection of nearly a dozen authentic, restored historic structures built between the 1870s and 1950s. Pack a lunch and bring the family to enjoy the shaded picnic areas, a playground, and basketball and tennis courts.

That’s 1 more day than he gave last year and double what he gave from 2019-2021.

As the “most wonderful time of the year” approaches, DeSanta Claus is again handing out gifts in the form of extra paid days off.

State employees can skip work on business days abutting four major holidays:

— Nov. 22, the day before Thanksgiving.

— Dec. 26, the day after Christmas.

— Dec. 29, the Friday before New Year’s Eve.

— Jan. 2, the day after New Year’s Day.

Those days off are in addition to regular office closures during the holidays.

“Our state employees have worked tirelessly throughout the year to aid and assist Florida families,” Gov. Ron DeSantis said in a statement.

“Over the past few months, they have selflessly responded to Hurricane Idalia and the State of Florida’s Israel Rescue Operation. Closing state offices on these additional days will provide state employees with some much-deserved time with their families and loved ones while enjoying the holiday season.”

For those keeping score, the four extra days off this year are one more than DeSantis gave employees last year. It’s double what he gave during the holiday season between 2019 and 2021, when workers received the weekdays before Christmas and New Year’s off.

His predecessors in the Governor’s Mansion, Rick Scott, gave workers similar paid breaks. Former Gov. Charlie Crist gave workers both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve off with pay as well in 2008.

Florida employees receive nine paid days off throughout the year: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, the Friday after Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Full-time employees are also entitled to one personal holiday yearly. If unused, they don’t roll over to the next year.

Arbor Day? Everglades Day? Pascua Florida Day? Ronald Reagan Day? There are a lot more holidays in Florida than you might think, but don't expect to get the day off for many of them.

Florida officially recognizes 21 legal holidays, which may or may not line up with the list of federal holidays, when state offices will be closed. The state also lists 35 separate days, weeks or months that have been designated or proclaimed as a public holiday, with varying suggestions for observance.

Here are Florida's official holidays, as listed in the state statutes.

What are the legal holidays in Florida?

The legal holidays, when state offices may be closed, are the following:

According to Florida statutes, whenever any legal holiday falls on a Sunday, the Monday following it is considered a public holiday for "all and any of the purposes aforesaid."

What are the public holidays in Florida?

The following official dates may be observed with events, official observations or local government office closures. The governor may or may not make an annual proclamation about them. Public holidays are not paid holidays unless otherwise noted.

DECEMBER

Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Good Friday also may be designated as legal holidays by chief circuit judges.

Does Florida celebrate Confederate holidays?

Yes.

After the Civil War ended, there was a period from 1865 to 1877 known as Reconstruction when attempts were made to rebuild the country and establish a framework for legal equality for Black people in the U.S. There was a backlash to these efforts across many Southern states, resulting in Jim Crow segregation laws, a surge in Confederate monuments and memorials, the promotion of the false "Lost Cause" narrative of the war, and official holidays honoring Confederate leaders.

In 1895, the Florida Legislature enshrined Confederate Memorial Day and Gen. Robert E. Lee's birthday as legal holidays. Ten years later, the birthday of Jefferson Davis, the president of the Confederacy was added.

Since 2018 there have been several attempts to strike those holidays from the state calendar but none have moved forward.

Does Florida celebrate Juneteenth?

Juneteenth commemorates the day in Galveston, Texas in 1866 when the last enslaved people in the U.S. were finally informed that they were free, two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. President Joe Biden made Juneteenth a federal holiday in 2021.

Despite that, Florida — along with states like California, Hawaii, Pennsylvania and more than two dozen others — does not officially recognize Juneteenth as a legal, paid holiday. it is included in the list of state public holidays and some county commissions and city councils in recent years have closed offices for Juneteenth.

Since it took some time to get the word around, many states have their own emancipation holidays. Florida's came a month earlier than Texas.

Emancipation Day, May 20, marks the day in 1865 when the Emancipation Proclamation was first read in Tallahassee by Union Gen. Edward McCook. Also called "Mayteenth," Emancipation Day is celebrated with local events and DeSantis has called it a "great expansion of freedom in our state." Historians have pushed for official recognition of the day.

Are there any other days off in Florida?

Occasionally governors may, at their discretion, declare state offices to be closed. Florida also may recognize days of mourning declared by the federal government.

Former Gov. Charlie Crist started a tradition of giving state workers additional paid time off the weeks of Christmas and New Year's, a practice continued by former Gov. Rick Scott and current Gov. Ron DeSantis. Additionally, this year DeSantis declared Monday, July 3, a day off to give state workers a four-day weekend as part of what he called "Freedom Summer."
