Discover Effortless Aging with Hormone Therapy for Women

There's real substance to the notion that every woman is different. No two person's attitudes, bodies, or goals in life are ever exactly the same. But if there's one thing that every person shares, it's that our bodies change as we get older. That's especially true for females over the age of 50. One day you wake up, roll out of bed, and attack the day with vigor and positivity.

The next day, it seems like your emotions are out of control. Despite dieting and healthy life choices, your weight won't go down. It seems like you're having to deal with uncomfortable hot flashes every other hour of the day. Life can be hard after 50, especially when it seems like your body is plotting against you.

But the truth is, these changes are a completely normal part of the aging process for women. As you might be aware, this change is called menopause, and according to the NIH, more than one million women go through it every year. This change in life marks the end of your period. During this time, your hormones begin to deplete, causing a range of symptoms that can be difficult to deal with without professional help. Some of the most common symptoms of menopause include:

  • Vaginal Dryness
  • Low Libido or Sexual Desire
  • Mood Swings
  • Lack of Focus

How Does Hormone Replacement Therapy for Women Work?

At NV Medical Orlando, our HRT treatments for women include the use of pellets, which are about the size of a tic-tac and contain hormones like estrogen and testosterone. These pellets are implanted subcutaneously to supply your body with the hormones it needs. Each pellet contains a tiny number of bioidentical hormones that are released steadily into your bloodstream for up to five months.

Unlike other sexual health centers, every HRT treatment provided by our women's sexual health clinic is tailored to our patients. While natural hormone replacement therapy is effective for many women, every patient is different. That's why it's important that you speak with a board-certified doctor, like Gina Kirkpatrick, before starting any HRT treatment to make sure it's right for you.

Your HRT Timeline

As we mentioned earlier, no two women will have the same hormone levels or HRT therapy needs. As such, every woman's timeline for menopause relief will be different. Generally, however, a standard HRT timeline may look like this:

week 1

Around week one, many women notice that they experience fewer hot flashes than normal. Some women notice these improvements only a few days after their first treatment.

week 2

After about two to three weeks of HRT for women in Four Corners, FL, many women notice that they have less irritability, anxiety, and fewer mood swings. During this phase, hot flashes should continue diminishing, and sleep may improve. Other benefits of HRT, like increased libido and more energy, are also expected during this phase.

week 3

Starting around weeks three to four, many HRT patients will notice drastic improvements in menopausal symptoms.

week 4

Around weeks five and six, it's common for women to notice physical differences like healthier skin, less hair loss, and even weight loss. With time, these improvements become even more pronounced.

Additional Services for Optimal Female Health

At NV Medical Orlando, we don't only treat our patients for sexual health and wellness. Because Dr. Gina Kirkpatrick is a fellowship-trained urologist, our clinic has the capacity to treat all matters related to sexual health and wellness, including certain urologic conditions.

Rejuvenation

Vaginal Rejuvenation

Have you started to notice that things “down under” are different than they were years ago? Are you experiencing disconcerting symptoms such as:

  • Burning
  • Irritation After Sex
  • Dryness
  • Urinary Incontinence
  • Unfulfilling Intercourse
  • Vaginal Laxity (Lack of Tightness)
  • Diminished Lubrication During Intercourse

If you've noticed any of the above symptoms, you may be dealing with vaginal or pelvic floor laxity. For women dealing with these issues, vaginal rejuvenation often answers their problems. Vaginal rejuvenation is an umbrella term that covers several vaginal corrective procedures. These procedures can correct problems that occur after giving birth or during menopause.

Traditionally, these conditions have been treated with invasive surgeries and with supplements like vaginal estrogen or hyaluronic acid. However, modern treatment options like laser vaginal rejuvenation are growing in popularity and can help women avoid the pitfalls of surgery.

In fact, study centers around the world are using monopolar radiofrequency for vaginal laxity in premenopausal women. Studies show that treatment is safe and helps improve vaginal laxity and other sexual dysfunctions. Additionally, anecdotal evidence shows that patients have less urine leakage when coughing, laughing, sneezing, and exercising.

If you're unsatisfied with the appearance of your vagina or have noticed increased looseness or diminished lubrication, don't lose hope. Vaginal rejuvenation, HRT for women in Four Corners, FL, or a combo of the two may be right for you.

Dryness

Vaginal Dryness

The primary cause of vaginal atrophy or vaginal dryness is the reduction of estrogen. Typically, women lose estrogen during and after menopause. Childbirth and hysterectomy can also be causes that reduce estrogen production. To help women restore natural levels of estrogen, thereby treating vaginal dryness, NV Medical Orlando offers three types of therapies:

Vaginal Therapy

Estrogen cream is applied intravaginally at night to improve vaginal blood flow, lubrication, and elasticity. Alternatively, women can choose s Hyaluronic Acid Vaginal Suppository, which provides hormone-free relief from vaginal dryness. This treatment is best for women who cannot undergo hormone replacement therapy.

Minimally Invasive Vaginal Therapy

Viveve Radiofrequency Technology, which uses cryogen-cooled radio frequencies to heat and cool vaginal tissue, is designed to improve:

  • Blood Flow
  • Vaginal Lubrication
  • Vaginal Laxity
  • Stress Urinary Incontinence

This popular treatment is performed discreetly, is painless, and usually takes less than an hour to complete.

Systemic Therapy

HRT for women in Four Corners, FL, can be administered as oral pills, creams, pellets, or as injections under the skin. The specific type of hormones, their delivery mechanisms, and dosage levels are determined on a patient-by-patient basis after a detailed history, physical exam, and laboratory study.

Low Libido in Women

If you're a woman who finds herself lacking sexual desire or the act of sexual intercourse, you're not alone. In fact, research from 1999 shows that as much as 22% of women in the U.S. report low sex drive. Though this issue is often underreported, its causes and the available treatments are well-known.

Causes of low libido in women include:

Surgery

Hysterectomies often result in a drastic drop of testosterone and estrogen in a woman's body. This drop in hormones has been linked to low libido.

Medications

Some medicines that are used to treat depression and anxiety, specifically SSRIs that inhibit serotonin, have been demonstrated to reduce sexual arousal.

Hormones

Estrogen affects blood flow to vaginal and genital tissues. Reducing estrogen, which can occur during and after menopause, childbirth or surgical menopause created secondary to a hysterectomy can result in reduced vaginal blood flow and lubrication.

Overall Health

Studies on post-menopausal women have demonstrated that patients in poor health report lower sexual desire. In fact, symptoms like chronic pain, fatigue, and mood swings caused by chronic illnesses all contribute to decreased female libido.

Though low libido and the effects of unbalanced hormones can be concerning, treatment is available at NV Medical Orlando. First, a thorough physical exam and health history will be conducted to help our experts develop an optimal treatment plan for you. During your evaluation, you may be asked to complete a questionnaire that helps us assess your symptoms further. That way, we can craft an appropriate treatment regimen to address your symptoms and concerns.

The type of treatment recommended depends on your identified needs and may include hormone replacement therapy for women, vaginal treatments, oral medications, sexual therapies, or additional treatment regimens.

Florida is known for its sandy beaches, theme parks, and summer storms. Therefore, it’s no surprise that the lightning capital of the U.S. would be in Florida. Keep reading to discover the Florida suburb known as the lightning capital of the U.S. and what it has to offer when the storms are clear.

Where Is the Lightning Capital of the U.S.?

Four Corners is the Florida suburb known as the lightning capital of the U.S. The town of Four Corners earned its name because it is where four central Florida counties meet, forming a “quadripoint.” This geographical oddity makes it an unincorporated community or census-designated place (CDP). It covers Lake, Orange, Osceola, and Polk County. And it’s just west of the famous Walt Disney World in Orlando. This unique suburb recently took the title of the lightning capital of the U.S. from Flatonia, Texas.

What Makes Four Corners the Lightning Capital of the U.S.?

Four Corners is the new lightning capital of the U.S. because the lightning density recorded in 2022 was 474 lightning strikes per square kilometer or 1,229 lightning events per square mile. Two other cities experienced numbers almost as high as Four Corners. Those cities are Greensburg, Louisiana, with 387 strikes per square kilometer, and Ariel, Mississippi, with 376 strikes per kilometer.

Annual Lightning in Florida

In addition to Four Corners becoming the lightning capital of the U.S., Florida overall scored first place with the highest lightning density in the country. The state averages 109.84 strikes per square kilometer or 285 lightning events per square mile. However, Texas ranks the highest for the total number of lightning strikes. The state experienced 27,696,688 strikes over the year in 2022. But Florida was close behind with a total of 18,706,904 strikes.

Higher than usual numbers across Florida are partially due to Hurricane Ian. The eye of the storm contained high levels of lightning. In fact, Hurricane Ian had the highest number of strikes than any previously recorded Atlantic system, with an estimated 34,000 lightning strikes between September 27 and September 28 alone. At its peak, Ian’s eyewall recorded lightning strikes every three seconds. These numbers are significant because storms from the Pacific typically have higher strike numbers than those in the Atlantic.

Florida experiences high annual lightning events because of its location. Daily Gulf and sea breezes meet the moist inland air, especially in the summer, creating ideal thunderstorm conditions. Stronger breezes mean stronger storms.

Places to Visit in Four Corners

Despite earning the title of the lightning capital of the U.S., Four Corners, Florida, is known for its beautiful citrus groves and freshwater lakes. It may not be at the top of travel destination lists either. Still, the community is close to tourist favorites like Walt Disney World and Universal Studios. It offers travelers high-rated hotels, resorts, and summer vacation rentals to act as a home base while they explore what this curious town has to offer. With that said, here are a few of the best places to visit the next time you’re in Four Corners.

Four Corners is sometimes called Citrus Ridge. Here you can find The Showcase of Citrus, a 2,500-acre family-owned and operated estate. They started in 1989 and continue to cultivate over 50 varieties of citrus. Visitors can ride a monster truck to tour the ranch, pick their own citrus to take home from November to May, feed farm animals, and grab a bite to eat.

You can still enjoy nature in the lightning capital of the U.S. Only 20 minutes away is the natural theme park Lake Louisa State Park. The park is home to 11 natural plant communities, diverse native wildlife, including the Florida bobcat, and three major lakes – Louisa, Hammond, and Dixie. Visitors can explore the park by canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and biking. There are even camping facilities for serious nature lovers between the Dixie and Hammond lakes.

A popular indoor activity for cat lovers is the Orlando Cat Cafe. It’s a local coffeehouse where visitors can stop by and spend the afternoons with up to 15 adoptable cats. The Orlando Cat Cafe is the first of its kind to open in Orlando. Moreover, they are partnered with SPCA Florida to ensure the cats in their care find a loving forever home. Just be sure to make a reservation!

A Florida suburb may not be the first destination that comes to mind when thinking of trending travel destinations. But Four Corners isn't just any Florida suburb.

The community in the center of the state may not have the sprawling coastal beaches other top Florida destinations boast, but Four Corners has the most popular tourist attraction on the planet: Walt Disney World. And its proximity to the theme park has made it one of the top summer travel destinations in the U.S., according to Airbnb data shared with Travel + Leisure.

The town is called Four Corners because it's where four Florida counties — Orange, Osceola, Polk and Lake — meet. (Some call this a "quadripoint.") It's a bit of a geographical oddity, technically considered a CDP (census-designated place) or an unincorporated suburban community. But technicalities aside, it is the only place in Florida located in four different counties.

Four Corners is home to a bevy of hotels, resorts, and vacation rentals, offering easy access to the nearby theme parks. But there's more to Four Corners than the happiest place on Earth. Four Corners is near a bounty of freshwater lakes, including Lake Louisa, Lake Dixie, and Hammond Lake at Clermont's Lake Louisa State Park. There's also a thriving jet skiing scene in the surrounding area, a result of the abundance of lakes; try rentals and lessons from local businesses such as Jodi's Ski Skool, on Lake Gifford, opposite Lake Austin.

Four Corners is also sometimes known as Citrus Ridge. It's a beloved part of Florida's citrus culture, which you can enjoy at the Showcase of Citrus. The 2,500-acre estate boasts more than 50 different varieties of citrus, some of which can be picked by visitors. You can also take a monster truck tour through the ranch, stop by the Old Time Country Store for souvenirs, or just stop by for a picnic in the citrus groves.

Toward the south end of Four Corners, there's Orlando Tree Trek Adventure Park. Stop by for a zip line, ropes course, or aerial adventure that will get your heart pounding.

And, of course, if you're looking for more adventure, Walt Disney World and Universal Studios Orlando are only a short drive away.

The Walt Disney World area earned a “hair-raising” title in 2022.

RELATED: Lightning Strikes Magic Kingdom’s Emporium & Strikes Fear in the Hearts of Guests Along Main Street, U.S.A.

According to Vaisala, a Finland-based entity that uses weather and environmental observation techniques to track global weather patterns, an area just two miles from the Walt Disney World Resort was the lightning capital of the country in 2022. The area, specifically referred to as Four Corners, Florida (because it’s where four Florida counties–Orange, Osceola, Polk, and Lake–meet), had 1,229 lightning events last year.

That’s 1,229 lightning events per square mile, not in total. The Vaisala Company defines a “lightning event” as any cloud-to-cloud lightning strike or any cloud-to-ground lightning strike.

The Four Corners area of the Sunshine State is located just two miles from the Walt Disney World Resort, and according to the report issued by Vaisala, the Central Florida location took the number one spot from Flatonia, Texas, a town 90 miles east of San Antonio, Texas, that saw 1,043 lightning events per square mile in 2021.

Four Corners, Florida, had nearly 200 lightning strikes per square mile more than Flatonia, Texas, did in the previous year.

The Sunshine State earned an honor as a whole in 2022–for the number-one spot in the United States for total lightning density. In 2022, Florida had 285 lightning events per square mile–a 27% increase when compared with 2021.

Lightning strikes aren’t uncommon at Disney World. In 2022, lightning struck locations on Disney World property more than once. In May, a magnificent bolt of lightning struck EPCOT near Spaceship Earth.

@streamingthemagic

Wow! Lightning strikes spaceship earth at Epcot Disney World during Kristen & Adam’s live stream on Streaming The Magic #disneyparks #spaceshipearth #lightningbolt

In July, a bolt of lightning lit up the night sky behind the Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom, and then lightning struck EPCOT again in September 2022. In fact, Disney World sees a lot of lightning strikes, and while there’s no such thing as a “safe place” during a lightning storm, Disney World does incorporate the use of lightning rods across its property, and each one is hidden in plain sight.

At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the Mickey Mouse that stands atop the high tower of the Crossroads kiosk near the entrance to the park is lightning rod; let’s just say lightning is drawn to Mickey’s right ear. The rod is made of copper and, as with any other non-Mickey lightning rod, it attracts the lightning to it. Once a bolt strikes the rod, the rod channels millions of volts of energy from the lightning through the copper around the structure and into the ground below.

More multifamily and townhome development is being planned in the Four Corners area of Lake County with a total of nearly 1,300 new dwelling units across four different projects.

Near the freestanding emergency department for South Lake Hospital, Crown Diversified Industries is prepping about 20 acres for a new apartment community north of Town Center Boulevard and south of Cagan Ridge Boulevard.

The company is led by Joe H. Scott, who founded the Missouri-based commercial real estate firm Scott Properties and is chairman of Bryanstone Partnership, a property owner and developer in Lake County. He and Loretta Scott Sr. created the hospitality, development and management company, Exploria Resorts.

Winter Park-based Bravo Engineering is the civil engineer.

A conceptual site plan shows a 273-unit apartment community that consists of 13, 3-story multifamily buildings and a 5,000-square-foot clubhouse with a large pool pavilion. Amenities include a car maintenance and washing station, a fenced playground area, a dog park and a large community garden.

The project is the latest of several multifamily communities planned around the Publix Super Market at Summer Bay. In 2015, Crown Diversified Industries built the adjacent 245-unit Oaks At Southlake Commons multifamily community. And in 2020, the developer began building the 55-and-older, lakeside community called Oaks on the Lake. The complex consists of 270 multifamily units across six buildings.

The developer is behind most of the construction in the area, northeast of the intersection between U.S. 192 and U.S. 27.

The Scotts donated the land where Orlando Health completed a 40,000-square-foot freestanding emergency department known as the Joe H and Loretta Scott Emergency Room at 16966 Cagan Ridge Boulevard.

Just a little further north on U.S. 27, civil engineer and land planner Luke Classon of Appian Engineering recently filed a pre-application package on behalf of Charlotte-based Crosland Southeast for a 310-unit apartment complex called Park West. The same developer broke ground a year ago on The Hudson, a 320-unit apartment community just north of Orlando’s MetroWest neighborhood and received master plan approval from the City of Orlando for a 247-unit apartment complex near the Packing District.

According to the application material, the site is located on “Tract A” on the recently approved Windsor Cay Preliminary Plat. The roughly 15-acre property is part of a larger 248-acre assemblage of land just north Cagan Crossings that was recently acquired by the PulteGroup for $18.76 million.

Formerly known as the Rubin Groves property, the land was entitled by South Florida developer Sheldon Rubin, who won the necessary county approvals to build up to 1,500 short-term rental residential units. Last summer, Rubin also amended the zoning and created a larger 278-acre PUD, which allows for up to 400 multifamily residential units.

As part of plans Sheldon promised to dedicate about five acres of land for a separate 90-unit workforce housing development. GrowthSpotter previously reported that Turnstone Development’s Steve Smith was under contract to purchase the workforce housing component.

On the remaining property, Pulte Homes plans to build a vacation home community called Windsor Cay, similar to its Windsor Island Resort community nearby.

In a previous interview with GrowthSpotter Clint Ball, Pulte’s division president, said Windsor Cay will feature about 700 units with about a 3:1 ratio of detached vacation homes to townhomes. All units will have a backyard pool and outdoor kitchen. The community also will feature a large clubhouse with two pools, a lazy river, a splash park and basketball court.

Just south of the Pulte property, Meritage Homes is the contracted buyer for 65 acres of timberland stretching from U.S. 27 to the Green Swamp known as Cagan Crossings West.

Meritage Division President Brian Kittle filed a Preliminary Subdivision Plan this month with Lake County that would entitle the site for 390 townhomes. The site currently has Planned Unit Development zoning as part of the Cagan Crossings master-planned community. Meritage is requesting a capacity encumbrance letter to confirm the availability of water and sewer service.

The Arizona-based homebuilder already has a presence in Cagan Crossings, having bought the exclusive rights to build 323 single-family homes in the community east of U.S. 27. Meritage is now selling lots in Phase 2 and offers 10 floorplans with prices starting at $380,000.

Meanwhile, just a short distance away, Kolter Land Partners recently began planning the fourth phase of the master-planned Serenoa community along Sawgrass Bay Boulevard and west of Flemings Road.

According to a conceptual site plan, the developer wants to build an apartment community that consists of 10 multifamily buildings and a an amenity clubhouse with a resort-style pool at its center.

This article has been updated with developer information about Park West. GrowthSpotter editor Laura Kinsler contributed to this report. Have a tip about Central Florida development? CLERMONT, Fla. – As housing costs in Lake County continue to climb, one nonprofit says it is struggling to get an affordable housing project in the Four-Corners area off the ground. Like many affordable housing complexes, their current communities in Lake County already have long waiting lists. Now a Clermont mom who says she’s now on the brink of homelessness if she doesn’t find somewhere soon.

What You Need To Know

For single mom Latoya Anglin, she longs for a place she and her kids can call home. This is her day to day routine, making calls and searching for an affordable place to live.

"It’s heartbreaking because when you do get someone who answers the phone, they’re giving you a cost that you can’t afford," said Anglin.

It’s not for a lack of trying, but the demand for affordable housing outweighs the supply in Lake County.

According to the National Low Income Housing Coalition, the Orlando-metro area, which includes Lake County, is tied for second place with Riverside, CA for having the fewest available rental homes that are affordable to the poorest renters. Data shows only 18 available homes for every 100 of the poorest renters.

"There was no one to help. It was just me alone fighting, fighting, fighting, fighting, and it was just fighting a losing battle," said Anglin.

Anglin has even gone into debt, just to put a roof over her kid’s heads.

"I got nothing but rejection and my only option was to live in a hotel because I refused to go on the street. That was never an option," said Anglin.

Steve Smith at New Beginnings is tackling the issue in Lake County head-on. Smith's organization has already developed two affordable housing communities in the Clermont area and several more are on the way. But he said with how competitive buying land is, many developers are choosing luxury over affordability.

"Everybody's crying out they can't find land to build upon for affordable housing. Because the cost of the land increased significantly," said Smith.

Smith said he's been working on a 90-unit affordable housing project in the Four-Corners area, where there are currently no affordable housing apartments. But Smith said it is now on hold because his agreement with the builder fell through. Now, he’s looking for another location for the project.

"The biggest challenge we have right now throughout the state of Florida, that land prices are skyrocketing," said Smith.

For Anglin, she finally found a place. Spectrum News 13 was there after she made hundreds of calls and applied to over 80 affordable housing complexes. But it took her two years and countless sleepless nights to get where she is today.
