Discover Effortless Aging with Hormone Therapy for Women

There's real substance to the notion that every woman is different. No two person's attitudes, bodies, or goals in life are ever exactly the same. But if there's one thing that every person shares, it's that our bodies change as we get older. That's especially true for females over the age of 50. One day you wake up, roll out of bed, and attack the day with vigor and positivity.

The next day, it seems like your emotions are out of control. Despite dieting and healthy life choices, your weight won't go down. It seems like you're having to deal with uncomfortable hot flashes every other hour of the day. Life can be hard after 50, especially when it seems like your body is plotting against you.

Service Areas

But the truth is, these changes are a completely normal part of the aging process for women. As you might be aware, this change is called menopause, and according to the NIH, more than one million women go through it every year. This change in life marks the end of your period. During this time, your hormones begin to deplete, causing a range of symptoms that can be difficult to deal with without professional help. Some of the most common symptoms of menopause include:

  • Hot Flashes
  • Vaginal Dryness
  • Low Libido or Sexual Desire
  • Mood Swings
  • Lack of Focus
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Chronic Tiredness
  • Increased Body Weight

Trying to juggle and cope with the symptoms of hormone deficiency can be rough for women and their partners because many of them are linked to nutrition, stress, and lack of exercise.

How Does Hormone Replacement Therapy for Women Work?

At NV Medical Orlando, our HRT treatments for women include the use of pellets, which are about the size of a tic-tac and contain hormones like estrogen and testosterone. These pellets are implanted subcutaneously to supply your body with the hormones it needs. Each pellet contains a tiny number of bioidentical hormones that are released steadily into your bloodstream for up to five months.

Unlike other sexual health centers, every HRT treatment provided by our women's sexual health clinic is tailored to our patients. While natural hormone replacement therapy is effective for many women, every patient is different. That's why it's important that you speak with a board-certified doctor, like Gina Kirkpatrick, before starting any HRT treatment to make sure it's right for you.

Your HRT Timeline

As we mentioned earlier, no two women will have the same hormone levels or HRT therapy needs. As such, every woman's timeline for menopause relief will be different. Generally, however, a standard HRT timeline may look like this:

week 1

Around week one, many women notice that they experience fewer hot flashes than normal. Some women notice these improvements only a few days after their first treatment.

week 2

After about two to three weeks of HRT for women in Longwood, FL, many women notice that they have less irritability, anxiety, and fewer mood swings. During this phase, hot flashes should continue diminishing, and sleep may improve. Other benefits of HRT, like increased libido and more energy, are also expected during this phase.

week 3

Starting around weeks three to four, many HRT patients will notice drastic improvements in menopausal symptoms.

week 4

Around weeks five and six, it's common for women to notice physical differences like healthier skin, less hair loss, and even weight loss. With time, these improvements become even more pronounced.

Additional Services for Optimal Female Health

At NV Medical Orlando, we don't only treat our patients for sexual health and wellness. Because Dr. Gina Kirkpatrick is a fellowship-trained urologist, our clinic has the capacity to treat all matters related to sexual health and wellness, including certain urologic conditions.

Rejuvenation

Vaginal Rejuvenation

Have you started to notice that things “down under” are different than they were years ago? Are you experiencing disconcerting symptoms such as:

  • Burning
  • Irritation After Sex
  • Dryness
  • Urinary Incontinence
  • Unfulfilling Intercourse
  • Vaginal Laxity (Lack of Tightness)
  • Diminished Lubrication During Intercourse

If you've noticed any of the above symptoms, you may be dealing with vaginal or pelvic floor laxity. For women dealing with these issues, vaginal rejuvenation often answers their problems. Vaginal rejuvenation is an umbrella term that covers several vaginal corrective procedures. These procedures can correct problems that occur after giving birth or during menopause.

Traditionally, these conditions have been treated with invasive surgeries and with supplements like vaginal estrogen or hyaluronic acid. However, modern treatment options like laser vaginal rejuvenation are growing in popularity and can help women avoid the pitfalls of surgery.

In fact, study centers around the world are using monopolar radiofrequency for vaginal laxity in premenopausal women. Studies show that treatment is safe and helps improve vaginal laxity and other sexual dysfunctions. Additionally, anecdotal evidence shows that patients have less urine leakage when coughing, laughing, sneezing, and exercising.

If you're unsatisfied with the appearance of your vagina or have noticed increased looseness or diminished lubrication, don't lose hope. Vaginal rejuvenation, HRT for women in Longwood, FL, or a combo of the two may be right for you.

Dryness

Vaginal Dryness

The primary cause of vaginal atrophy or vaginal dryness is the reduction of estrogen. Typically, women lose estrogen during and after menopause. Childbirth and hysterectomy can also be causes that reduce estrogen production. To help women restore natural levels of estrogen, thereby treating vaginal dryness, NV Medical Orlando offers three types of therapies:

Vaginal Therapy

Estrogen cream is applied intravaginally at night to improve vaginal blood flow, lubrication, and elasticity. Alternatively, women can choose s Hyaluronic Acid Vaginal Suppository, which provides hormone-free relief from vaginal dryness. This treatment is best for women who cannot undergo hormone replacement therapy.

Minimally Invasive Vaginal Therapy

Viveve Radiofrequency Technology, which uses cryogen-cooled radio frequencies to heat and cool vaginal tissue, is designed to improve:

  • Blood Flow
  • Vaginal Lubrication
  • Vaginal Laxity
  • Stress Urinary Incontinence

This popular treatment is performed discreetly, is painless, and usually takes less than an hour to complete.

Systemic Therapy

HRT for women in Longwood, FL, can be administered as oral pills, creams, pellets, or as injections under the skin. The specific type of hormones, their delivery mechanisms, and dosage levels are determined on a patient-by-patient basis after a detailed history, physical exam, and laboratory study.

Low Libido in Women

If you're a woman who finds herself lacking sexual desire or the act of sexual intercourse, you're not alone. In fact, research from 1999 shows that as much as 22% of women in the U.S. report low sex drive. Though this issue is often underreported, its causes and the available treatments are well-known.

Causes of low libido in women include:

Surgery

Hysterectomies often result in a drastic drop of testosterone and estrogen in a woman's body. This drop in hormones has been linked to low libido.

Medications

Some medicines that are used to treat depression and anxiety, specifically SSRIs that inhibit serotonin, have been demonstrated to reduce sexual arousal.

Hormones

Estrogen affects blood flow to vaginal and genital tissues. Reducing estrogen, which can occur during and after menopause, childbirth or surgical menopause created secondary to a hysterectomy can result in reduced vaginal blood flow and lubrication.

Overall Health

Studies on post-menopausal women have demonstrated that patients in poor health report lower sexual desire. In fact, symptoms like chronic pain, fatigue, and mood swings caused by chronic illnesses all contribute to decreased female libido.

Though low libido and the effects of unbalanced hormones can be concerning, treatment is available at NV Medical Orlando. First, a thorough physical exam and health history will be conducted to help our experts develop an optimal treatment plan for you. During your evaluation, you may be asked to complete a questionnaire that helps us assess your symptoms further. That way, we can craft an appropriate treatment regimen to address your symptoms and concerns.

The type of treatment recommended depends on your identified needs and may include hormone replacement therapy for women, vaginal treatments, oral medications, sexual therapies, or additional treatment regimens.

LONGWOOD, Fla. —

Angelo Owens, 9, came face-to-face with one of the most venomous snakes in the world on Wednesday.

"Yeah, it was in the corner," Angelo said about the four-foot diamondback rattlesnake.

"Scary, it had me shaking for a while," Alex Owens, Angelo's father, said about the encounter.

Angelo was hanging out in the backyard of his grandmother's house in Longwood when he spotted something in the corner.

"I thought it was a stuffed animal," Angelo said.

When he realized it was a snake, Angelo told his family, who thought it was just a classic garden variety. They thought it was completely harmless until they heard it.

"Just a real loud hiss. You could hear it two to three houses away — it was loud," Alex said.

It was Bob Cross, Central Florida's renowned critter catcher, who wrangled up the rattlesnake.

AUDIO: Listen to news and weather headlines with the WESH 2 podcast

The Owens family says they know about wildlife in Florida. They've seen coyotes, foxes and even bears, one of which got into their garage.

But a rattlesnake? Grandma says that is where she puts her foot down. Fortunately, Angelo didn't put his foot down in the wrong place.

"He's a lucky boy. Had he not been wise enough to go get mom — boys being boys — if he had tried to pick it up or get near it, this would be a different story," Angelo said.

The snake's story ends with a trip to its new home: a reptile center that will collect its venom to make antivenin that saves lives, while another close encounter with a rattlesnake has a completely different ending.

The family says they called FWC for help, but the officers who came out said they're not able to deal with venomous snakes and gave them a list of people who could.

A dog was found alive after vanishing following an encounter with a bear in a Seminole County neighborhood earlier this week, the Florida Fish and Wildlife (FWC) confirmed Thursday morning.

Officials said a man was walking the dog along Winding Pine Trail in Longwood Tuesday night when the attack happened. The man was taken to a hospital after suffering a large head wound. His condition was not immediately released.

In an update Thursday morning, a FWC spokesperson said they believe the man's injuries were "secondary to the interaction with the bear." According to an incident report, the man's injury appeared to be consistent with falling on the pavement, not from the bear's claws.

The incident remains under investigation.

FOX 35 News exclusively spoke with the neighbors who rushed to help the man and his dog during the bear encounter.

"I heard what sounded like a dog screaming," Jackie Coggin, who lives nearby, said. "I rolled my window down and could see in the dark a bear standing over the dog."

Coggin drove her car between the bear and the man being attacked, flashing her lights to scare the animal. She said it let the dog go, and more people came to help the man, injured on the ground.

When Florida Attacks: How to live with bears

FOX 35 talks with Mike Orlando, the lead bear program manager with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, about bears in Central Florida. How many are there? Where do they go? Why do we see them in backyards? And do bears attack, and why?

What should you do if you encounter a bear?

The presence of black bears in Florida is not typically a problem or threat to your safety, but it's important to remember that they are wild animals and deserve respect.

Black bears are normally too shy to risk contact with humans, but their powerful need to find food can overwhelm their fear, officials said.

The FWC urges residents to be aware of their surroundings and walk dogs on a short leash.

If you see a bear, the FWC said to make sure you are in a safe area, make sure the bear has a clear escape route, and then scare the bear! This can be done by yelling, banging pots and pans, using an air horn, or anything else that makes a lot of noise.

If you feel threatened by a bear or notice a bear that is visibly sick, injured, dead, or orphaned, you're asked to call the FWC wildlife alert hotline at 888-404-FWCC (3922). You're also asked to contact wildlife officials if you see someone harming bears or intentionally feeding them.

Employees picketing for more pay following break down of negotiations

LONGWOOD, Fla. – Dozens of UPS employees gathered outside a facility in Longwood on Thursday morning for what’s called a practice picket.

Those who participated said the point of the demonstration was to show the company they’re serious about the contract negotiations that are underway.

“It’s time this company took care of us,” UPS employee Chris Loulan said. “I mean, we were heroes five years ago, you know, essential workers. And now they can’t seem to find enough money to take care of it.”

Loulan has been working for UPS for 37 years. He said he remembers the last time employees went on strike 25 years ago. He said they’re fighting for better pay, especially for part-time workers.

[TRENDING: Become a News 6 Insider]

“They’re very underpaid,” Loulan said. “The stats are out there. With the inflation as it is, they’re not making a lot of money. They need to be taken care of. And the turnover is high too because they’re not making what they’re making at Burger King or McDonald’s.”

This all comes as contract negotiations between the Teamsters union and UPS broke down last Wednesday. Both sides are blaming each other from walking away from the table.

“They’re not saying what the details are, but it’s close but not close enough,” said Sean Mason, UPS employee and Teamsters Local Union 385 trustee. “Our company really wants us to get it done.”

Mason has been with UPS for 27 years. While the employee contracts aren’t up until July 31, they’re making their message clear weeks in advance.

“We’re sending a message nationwide,” Mason said. “This picketing is going across the nation, this practice picketing to let the company know we’re serious about this and this is what they can see on August 1 if they don’t give us a fair contract.”

The current contract is set to expire on July 31 at midnight.

LONGWOOD, FL. — The 144-player field for the IOA Golf Classic presented by LPT Realty has been finalized by the Epson Tour. The “Road to the LPGA” returns to the Sunshine State for the second time this year with the field now taking on Alaqua Country Club in Longwood, FL. The tournament will begin on May 19th and conclude on the 21st.

Individuals will compete in a 54-hole, stroke-play format for $200,000 and a winner’s share of $30,000. A cut will be made to the low 60 and ties after 36 holes. Tournament admission is free throughout the week.

"We are proud to sponsor the 10th annual IOA Golf Classic presented LPT Realty this week in Longwood,” said John Ritenour, Co-Founder of the Insurance Office of America. “The athletes on the Epson Tour work extremely hard to achieve their dreams, and we are happy to be a part of their Road to the LPGA."

The five 2023 champions will compete in Longwood this week, including the Epson Tour’s most recent winner and first two-time winner in 2023, Gabriela Ruffels. To go along with her second Epson Tour victory, the Australian also has 10 career top-10 finishes on the Epson Tour. Ruffels has a top-10 finish this season with her two victories and currently sits at No. 1 on the 2023 Epson Tour Official Money List.

“I am feeling good coming off the second win and looking forward to the next couple of events in Florida,” said Ruffels. “I am definitely feeling confident after the second win and hopefully can continue this play for the rest of the season.”

Recent past champions, Allison Emrey and Grace Kim have both moved on to the LPGA Tour since winning the IOA Golf Classic presented by LPT Realty in 2021 and 2022 respectively. Kim found early success in her rookie season on the LPGA Tour, capturing the first LPGA Tour win this season at the LOTTE Championship presented by Hoakalei. Other notable competitors from the past two years that have moved on to the LPGA Tour include Hyo Joon Jang (T2 in 2022), Sofia Garcia (T8 in 2022), Amanda Doherty (T2 in 2021) and Samantha Wagner (T8, 2021).

Robyn Choi, who finished in a share of fourth place in 2022, will return to Longwood with unfinished business in 2023. Choi has had a great start to her season so far, making all six cuts.

“It gives me a great confidence boost coming into this week as I’ve played well last year,” said Choi. “Knowing that this course suits my game, it also gives me reassurance that if I play the way I have been then the results will follow.”

A doorbell camera caught a bear trampling two light-up deer decorations in Longwood, Florida. It even left the property with one of them.

A bear has been caught getting in the holiday spirit – Grinch style – when a doorbell camera recorded it stealing lawn decorations from a Florida family.

Edgar Jason Levin spotted the bear on security footage at his home in Longwood, Florida, about 15 miles north of Orlando, according to Storyful.

The video shows the bear pad up to light-up reindeer and swipe a paw at the biggest one. The reindeer fell over as the lights went out and the bear trampled over it. The bear then knocks over a second light-up reindeer, grabbing it in its mouth to drag it away.

Bear becomes a cherished family story

Levin told WSVN-TV that the decoration was later found up the driveway with a few scratch marks from the bear. The whole encounter has become a cherished story among the Levin family.

“The kids love it," he told the station. "As soon as I showed them, they were like, ‘Oh my God! It’s so great! They just go crazy with it."

According to Storyful, this is the second year bears have messed with the decorations.

Bears wreak havoc throughout Florida

Yes, there are bears in Florida.

They can be found almost anywhere in the state but prefer to be in areas of flatwoods, swamps, scrub oak ridges, and hammock habitats, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

They look for places in cover and try to stay away from heavily populated areas. But much of Central Florida falls in one of the regions that the commission considers "frequent" for bear visits based on observations by researchers, public calls for help and sightings.

Those areas are considered core to the bear population and show evidence that reproduction is consistent.

Officials urge the public to avoid feeding bears, as it can increase their comfort with humans and put them at further risk. Officials recommend securing trash with a caddy, a bear-resistant container or simply waiting to put bins out in the morning before trash pickup.
