LONGWOOD, Fla. – A bear was caught on a Ring doorbell camera stealing food from the patio of a home in Longwood.
According to the residents, they had ordered around $45 worth of food from Taco Bell through Uber Eats over the weekend, and a delivery woman left the food on the porch by the front door.
Doorbell video shows a black bear come along shortly afterward, picking up the bag of food in its mouth before slowly wandering off.
The residents told News 6 that the bear returned at some point to carry off the drinks, too.
The footage shows the family later come out on the front porch to grab their food, but by that point, it was already gone.
Uber Eats reportedly reimbursed the family for their stolen treats.

The “Ginger Ale Spring” — as nearby residents like to call it — was once the property of the Beemans, a wealthy family that lived in Florida during the 1900s.
According to local historian Jason Byrne, the story behind the spring stems back to the 1880s, when Dr. Edward Beeman discovered a cure for upset stomachs.

Beeman eventually used his research to create “Beeman’s Pepsin Chewing Gum,” which ended up being a huge success for his startup, the Beeman Chemical Company.
Beeman later sold the company, making him and his family extraordinarily wealthy.
His son Harry was living in Orlando with a wife and two children: Edwin and Lester. The family made even more money through ventures like real estate in Winter Park and the San Juan hotel in downtown Orlando.
Lester eventually came of age and went into real estate, making his fortune by investing in an area of land near Longwood called Palm Springs, which grew to become a “go-to spot” for weekend getaways for Central Florida residents, Byrne explains.
With all of the success the family was seeing, the Beeman Investment Company announced in 1924 that it would set up a bottling plant built at a smaller spring north of Palm Springs — the Ginger Ale Spring, as it would come to be known.
The company claimed that its beverages — Beeman’s Palm Springs Water and Beeman’s Palm Springs Ginger Ale — would put even Coca-Cola to shame, though little evidence exists that distribution made it past the I-4 corridor, according to Byrne.
“The water and ginger ale products were carried by most local druggists and independent grocers, as well as emerging chains such as United Markets grocery, with four stores in Orlando alone and 34 total (all in the Tampa Bay and Orlando area),” Byrne writes.
Less than a year later, production at the plant stopped, and the Beemans pursued other ventures.
While the plant is no longer there, the Ginger Ale Spring still sits with a large stone tub collecting water and faded green paint. The tub has a small opening in it, which creates a small stream that feeds into the nearby Little Wekiva River.
News 6 visited the area with county officials on Tuesday to explore the site. The most apparent feature of the spring is the strong odor of sulfur, which can be smelled from a short distance away.
The property is situated both on county-owned and private lands, meaning that residents aren’t allowed to explore the area on their own without permission.
Several objects were left at the site, including a small statue and a few decorations.
Deputies said that a woman was found dead near the spring back in 2020. A local resident told News 6 that offerings are left near the spring by her family.
That resident also said he regularly visits the spring to bathe and was even baptized there.
According to Byrne, some springs like this throughout Florida have spiritual or religious reputations associated with them.
“The belief in the curing power of Florida water and sulfur springs in particular was very prevalent, even up until recent decades...” Byrne said. “For a few, it was some spiritual power of this water from the earth. But I think most of them it was less religious/spiritual and more just viewed as a natural cure from the minerals and other goodness that sprang from the depths.”
Despite the “No Trespassing” signs placed around the area, law enforcement and county officials have said that trespassers have been a large concern for this area. News 6 found piles of garbage littered throughout the woods, indicating that people had been there recently.
However, county officials have said that the area is prone to flooding and can be a dangerous trek, cautioning locals to keep off the property for their own safety.
The spring is situated on a property line shared by Seminole County and a private landowner. The County’s section contains drainage and utility easements that are not publicly accessible. The exact location of the spring is not disclosed to keep residents safe and prevent trespassing.

Central Florida’s version of the Grinch circa 2023 isn’t a green creature with onion breath and a beer belly. It’s a several hundred-pound black bear that’s interested in acquiring some shiny Christmas decorations.
According to the New York Post, homeowners in Longwood captured a surprising thief through their home surveillance cameras this week: a black bear preying on their outdoor Christmas decor.
The bear approached three light-up reindeer in the late-night hours on Wednesday, curiously and carefully sniffing out if they could be a threat. In a matter of minutes, the bear knocked the reindeer to the ground, crushing one of them and kidnapping another.
The footage shows the black bear making a run from the yard, taking one reindeer decoration with it.
"I didn't even see it. It wasn't until my wife called and said, 'Did you see what happened?'" homeowner EJ Levin told WSVN-TV.

ORLANDO, Fla. — Officials with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission say a Central Florida man was hospitalized Tuesday after encountering a bear in Longwood.
What You Need To Know
On Tuesday night, FWC responded to the area of Alaqua Lakes off Markham Woods Road.
Preliminary information suggests that the injuries the man sustained were secondary to his interaction with the bear "as they are not consistent with those seen in other human-bear contact events," FWC said in a release.
The release said the encounter happened Tuesday night when the man was walking his dog.
The region of the state from the Ocala National Forest to the Wekvia area has more than 1,200 bears in it — the most heavily populated area in the state.
FWC officials say the investigation into Tuesday's incident is ongoing.
Area resident Jackie Coggin says her community often puts out email alerts that mention bears and or coyotes are in the area.
Over the holidays a few years ago, she recalled seeing a bear coming right up to one of her home's windows. Another bear apparently was right at home on her property.
“I had a bear in my back yard and it is fenced,” Coggin said. “I watched the bear leave my yard, and the way that it climbed the fence was so nonchalant.”
She said what happened around 10 p.m. Tuesday wasn’t ordinary, and the sound of it was still ringing in her head.
“I could hear a dog just crying for like his life,” Coggin said. “It was the most awful sound.”
She said her neighbor was lying on the ground and the bear standing over him.
However, an incident report from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office shows authorities did not see any visible laceration on the man from a bear's claw.
“He had a horrible gash on the back of his head,” Coggin said. “I did hear that the officer said it looked more like a gash from a fall.”
Experts say bear sightings are not uncommon in the area. Surrounding neighborhoods have alerts in their community by the FWC, or have bear trash cans for the community. Alaqua Lakes has neither.
The neighborhood does have dogs, which Coggin believes got the bear's attention.
“Our neighbors have really stepped in and have taken care of the dog and had surgery done,” she said. “The dog is doing well.”
Coggin and other residents in the community say trash collections have taken longer than normal lately, which may have led to an uptick in bear activity.
“Our garbage hasn’t been picked up on every street, they’ll do like half the neighborhood and leave,” Coggin said. “So I do feel (the bears) have been out a lot lately.”
WastePro tells Spectrum News 13 that not only does it have a new driver for this neighborhood and route, but also with recent extreme heat, trash collection is taking longer than normal. According to the FWC, one bag of trash can provide twice the amount of calories a bear is in search of for a whole day.

A South Florida private, nonprofit college has proposed a new campus in Longwood.

Boca Raton-based Everglades University filed a pre-application request with Seminole County to rezone roughly 9 acres from agricultural district to planned development so it can build a 40,000-square-foot education building. The properties are on the west side of Interstate 4, south of E.E. Williamson Road. The project will go before the county commissioners on Oct. 4.
Project documents say the building will include classrooms and faculty offices, as well as a cafe. The location would have the capacity for 1,000-1,500 students.
The college currently has a 28,000-square-foot local branch campus at 850 Trafalgar Court in Maitland. It is unclear if the new campus will replace or be in addition to the existing site.
College leaders were not immediately available for comment.

According to the most recent stats from the U.S. Department of Education, Everglades University has over 2,624 students across all its campuses. Besides Orlando, it has locations in Miami, Boca Raton, Tampa and Sarasota as well as online learning. It offers bachelor's and master's degrees in subjects such as business and health care.
The new campus comes during a competitive time for colleges when it comes to attracting new students.
Herndon, Virginia-based National Student Clearinghouse Research Center found that community college enrollment in the U.S. was up for the first time in years, while enrollment at public and private nonprofit four-year institutions is down, but at a slower rate than pandemic levels.
Experts attributed the growth at community colleges to a large number of young students. A lower number of graduate programs hurt levels in those degrees.

“Despite encouraging signs of recovery among younger students at community colleges, overall undergraduate enrollment is still well below pre-pandemic levels, especially among degree-seeking students,” Doug Shapiro, executive director of the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, said in a prepared statement. “With the pandemic now behind us, a new set of factors appears to be preventing students from returning to campuses. And these new factors are having a stronger effect on students who are seeking bachelor’s degrees than on associate-seekers.”
The number of students pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees is down by about 1.09 million students now when compared to spring 2020.
