What is Male Andropause?

A decrease in hormones is not associated only with females. Males also experience a decrease in testosterone with age, sometimes in their 30s or 40s. This decrease refers to andropause. It is basically male ‘menopause’ but unlike menopause, it does not cause a male to lose his fertility. Male testosterone levels may continue to decrease steadily.

Symptoms of andropause in males can include:

  • Low testosterone
  • Low sex drive
  • Decrease in stamina
  • Depression
  • Loss of muscle mass
  • Mood swings
  • Weight gain
  • Hot flashes
  • Difficulties with erection (erectile dysfunction)
  • Weakness
  • Fatigue
  • Decreased libido
  • Decreased testicle size

Testosterone is the primary hormonal factor that causes deep voice, body hair, muscle mass, regulating sex derive (libido), production of sperm and various other hormonal changes. Once males observe a decrease in testosterone, all the effects of low testosterone start to appear. Men may also begin to experience low self-esteem.

Orlando Female Orgasmic Rejuvenation

Female Orgasmic Rejuvenation

Female orgasmic disorder (FOD) is when women experience a reduction in the intensity, delay, or absence of sexual orgasm, which causes distress. Symptoms must have been present for at least six months and are not better explained by a mental disorder or secondary to relationship problems, significant stress, and not because of substance abuse, new medications, or other medical conditions.

Studies have estimated the prevalence of FOD may be as high as 10-42% in the

Factors that can contribute to FOD include menopausal and hormonal changes.

The treatment approach can be multi-modal and include a combination of sexual psychotherapy, hormone supplementation, creams, and medication that increase blood flow to the genitals and platelet-rich plasma injections.

Orgasmic Rejuvenation is used as a therapy for FOD. This procedure involves removing blood from your arm with a small needle, processing the blood, and extracting the Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) for injection into the vaginal and clitoral areas.

Platelet-rich plasma therapy has been used successfully in other areas of medicine with successful results.

Platelet-rich plasma is a platelet concentrate that may help to speed up tissue healing, in some medical conditions, without significant side effects. It has been used to treat diabetic foot ulcers, muscle injuries, tendon injuries, orthopedic procedures, and various cosmetic procedures. Many published studies demonstrate that PRP therapy has minimal risk of scar tissue formation or significant side effects. PRP activates cells to develop into new tissue, nerves, collagen, and blood vessels.

Premature Ejaculation

Premature Ejaculation

Premature ejaculation (PE) can be classified as lifelong or acquired.

According to the International Society of Sexual Medicine, lifelong premature ejaculation is defined as male sexual dysfunction characterized by ejaculation that always or nearly always occurs before or within about 1 min of vaginal penetration and the inability to delay ejaculation on all or almost all vaginal penetrations, which results in negative personal consequences, such as distress, bother, frustration, and/or avoidance of sexual intimacy.

Acquired PE occurs at some point in a man’s life after having experienced normal ejaculation experiences in the past.

If a patient feels he is experiencing PE and would like treatment, it is important that he be assessed by a physician experienced with identifying the condition, considering if PE is lifelong or acquired, and devising an optimal treatment plan. Prior to treatment, a thorough history and physical exam should be conducted. All the treatment risks and benefits should be addressed before initiating treatment.

Treatment can include an on-demand oral medication that is taken several hours before sexual activity and one that is taken daily.

There are additional topical medications that can be applied to assist with delaying ejaculation.

In addition, there are behavioral techniques that can be used to delay ejaculation.

If you find you are experiencing this type of condition, please contact NV Medical Orlando for a personal and confidential consultation with our Board-Certified Urologist today.
