Understanding the Importance of Testosterone in Your Body

head-bottom

When people hear the word "testosterone," they often associate it with overly aggressive or macho men. However, testosterone really has little impact on a man's masculinity, at least from a social standpoint. Rather, testosterone plays a much more important role in male development, from puberty to the end of life.

As the primary androgen, testosterone helps men develop typical male characteristics and is vital for the production of sperm. The pituitary gland and hypothalamus in the body control testosterone, and it helps men develop and maintain various functions such as:

What Causes Low Testosterone?

head-bottom

As men age, they may experience lower levels of testosterone, also known as low T. This natural decline in testosterone can also be caused by drug abuse, obesity, prescribed medications, or testicle injuries. When testosterone levels decrease, it can affect the body's balance of testosterone and estrogen, leading to an increase in abdominal fat and higher levels of estrogen. This hormonal imbalance can lead to a variety of issues that, when left untreated, can affect your quality of life in several ways.

The most common low testosterone signs in males include the following:

  • Erectile Dysfunction or ED
  • Increased Amounts of Body Fat
  • Lack of Concentration
  • More Irritability
  • Low Libido
  • Low Sperm Count
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Decrease in Muscle Mass
  • Lack of Motivation

If one or more of those symptoms are happening in your life right now, it could be because your body has a lack of testosterone. The only way to find out for certain is to have your testosterone levels tested at a qualified Sexual Wellness and Holistic Clinic, such as NV Medical Orlando. If testing shows that you have low T, the next step in your recovery could be TRT in Orlando, FL.

The Risks of Living Life with Low Testosterone

head-bottom

Some men may think to themselves, "I don't have the time or patience to undergo TRT in Orlando, FL." While TRT treatments are quick, easy, and require no recovery time, we at NV Medical Orlando understand that this type of therapy is not for everyone. Some men choose to rough it through this stage in their life, despite available solutions. While that is certainly an option, if you're considering this route, you should know that more is at risk than low libido and lack of motivation.

As frustrating as those symptoms can be, living with low testosterone often results in more serious issues that risk the health of your vital organs. If you're on the fence about bringing your testosterone levels back within normal range, keep these health risks in mind.

Diabetes

Diabetes

For those who have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes or diabetes, it's possible that low testosterone levels could be a factor. Research has shown that men with low testosterone are more likely to develop diabetes as they age, and those with diabetes are also more likely to have low testosterone. Additionally, men with low T may struggle with insulin resistance. While testosterone replacement therapy won't cure diabetes, studies have suggested that men with healthy testosterone levels tend to have better blood sugar levels and a lower risk of obesity.

Heart Disease

Heart Disease

If a doctor has informed you that you have high blood pressure, you may be curious about its root cause. Could it be due to aging? Is it hereditary? Or is there another factor at play? Research has shown that men who have low levels of testosterone are more likely to develop cardiovascular diseases. When testosterone levels are low, red blood cell production is hindered, which can speed up the accumulation of plaque in your arteries. Over time, this plaque buildup can result in severe issues such as heart attacks and strokes.

Issues with Weight and Obesity

Issues with Weight and Obesity

Many men face the challenge of excess body fat as they age, which can be discouraging when you're trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Despite eating well and exercising regularly, stubborn fat around the waistline can be difficult to get rid of. However, it's important to note that low testosterone levels may be the underlying cause. Studies have shown a correlation between low T and obesity, as testosterone helps regulate metabolism by controlling insulin, glucose, and fat. The good news is that undergoing TRT in combination with proper diet and exercise can lead to weight loss and improved blood glucose and low-density cholesterol levels.

Anemia

Anemia

Anemia occurs when the body lacks or has dysfunctional red blood cells, resulting in reduced oxygen supply to organs. Men with low testosterone levels are at a higher risk of anemia since testosterone plays a role in healthy red blood cell production. A study conducted in 2009 revealed that older men with low T have five times more chances of being anemic compared to men with normal testosterone levels. Although testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) is not a cure for anemia, it can help in the production of more red blood cells, which may prevent anemia.

TRT in Orlando, FL: A Reliable Solution to Low Testosterone

head-bottom

To fully appreciate the advantages of testosterone replacement therapy from NV Medical Orlando, it's crucial to grasp its mechanism. Testosterone was first synthesized in a laboratory in 1935 and has been prescribed to counteract low testosterone levels in clinical settings ever since. Over the last few decades, it has emerged as one of the most commonly prescribed medications in the US.

TRT works by restoring a healthy testosterone level in men who suffer from low T. Essentially, TRT is similar to insulin for people who have diabetes. The body lacks sufficient production of an essential hormone, and so requires an exogenous source to replace it - testosterone in this case. Although most men begin TRT after the age of 50, more men in their 30s and 40s are having their testosterone levels tested at wellness clinics like NV Medical Orlando. If you're experiencing symptoms like ED but think you're too young for testosterone replacement therapy, it's worth having your T levels checked by a doctor.

Our TRT Process

As the name implies, TRT replaces the testosterone that your body is missing, so it can function as it should. Unlike some TRT clinics, however, our doctors and practitioners take a personalized, comprehensive approach to testosterone replacement therapy.

If you are experiencing symptoms that may indicate low testosterone levels, it is important to undergo a thorough evaluation, including a medical history and physical examination, as well as laboratory studies. After discussing the potential risks and benefits of testosterone therapy with your healthcare provider, a decision can be made about whether to proceed with treatment.

There are several methods for administering testosterone, such as a gel that is applied to the skin, injections, pellets that are placed under the skin, and a new oral pill that has recently become available. Once treatment begins, regular monitoring of your lab results is essential to ensure that the therapy is effective and to make any necessary adjustments based on additional factors. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms and are interested in exploring testosterone therapy, please reach out to NV Medical Orlando to schedule a private and confidential consultation with our Board-Certified Urologist.

ORLANDO, Fla. —

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the scene of a crash on Tuesday after a vehicle collided with a fire hydrant, causing major flooding on Conway Gardens Road.

According to the reports, the crash occurred at around 2:23 a.m. at Michigan Street and Conway Gardens Road after a 33-year-old driving a truck westbound ran off the road.

It caused the truck to collide with the fire hydrant, dislodging the hydrant from its base.

FHP said the driver who hit the hydrant stayed at the scene and wasn’t hurt.

It took Orlando Utilities Commission crews several hours to shut-off the water, but by then, there was no slowing the flow of muddy water into John Hughes' property.

One neighbor said he woke up to several inches of water inside covering the floor inside his home.

"My daughter woke up at 4:30 and she says there’s water in the house, of course I'm dead asleep how can there be water in the house," Hughes said.

In a cell phone clip he shared with WESH 2 Investigates, you can hear Hughes say, "Well, this is no nightmare."

By the time it stopped, his front door and porch area looked like a river bank.

We found him pushing the last of the water out of his garage, which fared better than his brand new floors inside.

“You've got to clean it up. That's pretty much what you can do. No point in being mad or angry or upset, I mean, it's a bummer but what are you going to do?” Hughes said.

Hughes assumed it was just a pipe that broke in the home, but he soon realized he was wrong.

With OUC crews working to clean up the mess for much of the day, Michigan Street between Conway Gardens Road and Bass Lake Boulevard was closed.

And by now, you may be wondering who is going to foot the bill for damage, likely in the thousands of dollars to repair Hughes’ home?

Will it be OUC?

“The accident was not caused by OUC. The damage was not caused by OUC so we are focused on making the repair," OUC spokesperson Derek Hudson said.

It's got Hughes wondering, “I really got to that point where I am thinking, 'Who is going to pay for it?'”

Is it the driver who struck the hydrant? Insurance agent Tom Cotton provided some answers.

“Well, this is clearly an automobile liability claim," Cotton said.

Cotton says this is a case — though rare — that involves “proximate cause of loss.”

In plain language, that means the liability is traced to the single event that triggered the ensuing events.

“The loss was caused by a car hitting a fire hydrant, so it goes back to the source," Cotton said.

Hughes has no FEMA flood insurance or that might quick in with funds quickly to repair his home.

So for now, his course of action is to contact the auto insurance company of the pick-up truck driver.

If Hughes meets resistance from the driver's insurance company or if he has no “liability” coverage — which accounts for roughly 25% of Florida vehicle policyholders — Cotton suggests Hughes contact his homeowners insurance rep.

If that doesn't help, he may need an attorney.

OUC repaired the piping that was damaged and cleaned up the road.

The Orlando Fire Department is replacing the hydrant.

CHARLOTTE – After a perfect 3-0 homestand, the Orlando Magic are looking to carry that momentum on the road.

The Magic (35-26) tip off a three-game road trip in Charlotte when they face off with the Hornets (15-46) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET.

“We want to win as many games as we can,” said Magic guard Cole Anthony. “Just stay consistent and not get off what’s got us these last couple of wins. Be consistent, play the same way, play selfless basketball, and do what we can.”

Orlando is one of the league’s hottest teams right now. Since January 31, the Magic have a record of 11-3. The only team better in the NBA during that span is Boston with an 11-1 mark.

“We’ve just got to continue to take it one game at a time,” said Magic point guard Markelle Fultz, who’s questionable for the contest due to left knee injury maintenance. “We’re going to be good. I think we have a really good team. Everybody has the same mindset. Everybody’s locked into winning. Everybody wants to win. We definitely are aware of it, but we have bigger goals within our team and (have) a higher standard for ourselves.”

This contest will mark the second meeting between Orlando and Charlotte this season. In the first outing between the two clubs, the Magic cruised past the Hornets for a 130-117 victory at Kia Center. However, due to injuries and some roster movement, Orlando will face a vastly different Charlotte squad on Tuesday night.

“They definitely have talent – they have some talented players for sure,” said Anthony, who erupted for 30 points the last time he squared off with the Hornets. “We have to stick with what’s made us good so far up until this point in the season. We have to get into the paint, guard at a high level, and we’ll have a good chance to win this game.”

Orlando’s defensive game plan will likely focus on slowing down Charlotte forward Miles Bridges, who’s notched five double-doubles in the last seven games. His 20.3 points and 9.7 rebounds per contest are both team highs during that span.

Hornets rookie Brandon Miller is also a threat. He currently ranks third in scoring among all first-year players with 16.7 points per game.

IN AND OUT: Fultz is questionable, while Kevon Harris (G League – Two-Way), Jett Howard (G League – On Assignment), and Trevelin Queen (G League – Two-Way) are out for Orlando.

For Charlotte, Nick Richards (right plantar fascia; discomfort) is questionable, while Amari Bailey (G League – Two-Way), LaMelo Ball (right ankle; tendinopathy), Leaky Black (G League – Two-Way), Seth Curry (right ankle; sprain), Cody Martin (left ankle; sprain), and Mark Williams (low back; injury recovery) are out.

QUOTE TO NOTE: “When you say that with those names, it’s kind of crazy hearing that but I think just, when I first got here, I wanted to just win. I think that was the biggest part. Doing whatever it takes to win and just playing and having fun with these guys. They’re always encouraging me to be aggressive, do me, and so whenever I hear that, I’m always on go. Just always trying to play my game and do whatever it takes to win. I think has been my biggest thing these first two years.” – Magic All-Star forward Paolo Banchero on being one of only four players in the last 40 years (since 1983-84) to have career averages of 20-plus points, six-plus rebounds and four-plus assists at age 21-or-younger. The others are Michael Jordan, LeBron James and Luka Doncic.

KEY STATS: With their win over Detroit on Sunday, the Magic swept their season series with Pistons, 4-0. The last time Orlando swept a season series against Detroit was during the 1998-99 season.

A healthy menu of marquee matchups last week simultaneously saw the Boston Celtics fortify their hold on the No. 1 spot in our NBA power rankings and a cluster of teams — most notably the defending champion Denver Nuggets — rev their engines loud enough for the Celtics to know they can't afford to ease up on their torrid pace.

The Celtics finished a 3-0 week by annihilating the previously surging Golden State Warriors, 140-88. They've now won 11 in a row. But they were not the only top-10 team with title aspirations to go undefeated last week and extend their winning streaks. The Nuggets and Milwaukee Bucks also both went 3-0 and have not lost since the All-Star break.

Denver ran their winning streak to 6-0 and jumped to No. 2 in the power rankings by taking down the Sacramento Kings and Miami Heat on back-to-back nights and then allowing LeBron James to traverse the 40,000-point mark before dispatching him and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Bucks' star Giannis Antetokounmpo, meanwhile, is back to posting Dad jokes after his team clobbered the Charlotte Hornets (twice) and the Chicago Bulls to give Milwaukee the second-best record in the East. (Giannis: "Why did the scarecrow keep getting promoted? Because he is outstanding in his field.") That was enough — the victories, not the joke — to move the Bucks back into the power rankings' top five after tumbling into the power rankings' mid-teens by going 3-7 before the All-Star break, a stretch that included losses to the lottery-bound Portland Trail Blazers, Memphis Grizzlies and Utah Jazz.

Nobody had a more disjointed week than the Oklahoma City Thunder, who both suffered the wrath of Victor Wembanyama and moved into first place in the Western Conference. Normally a double-digit loss to the last-place team in the conference would be costly in the power rankings, but A) Wembanyama has been a one-man wrecking crew of late that has made his San Antonio Spurs more formidable, and B) it is the Thunder's one loss in weeks, having won seven of their last eight. OKC only slid one spot, to No. 3.

The Minnesota Timberwolves and Dallas Mavericks, third and fifth, respectively, entering last week, suffered more than one blip and therefore were not as fortunate. Back-to-back home losses to the Sacramento Kings and Los Angeles Clippers dropped the T-Wolves to sixth, while a 1-3 week — despite three triple-doubles and a near fourth by Luka Doncic — sent the Mavs tumbling to ninth.

Taking advantage of that slippage in the West were two teams from the East, the Miami Heat and Orlando Magic. Both have quietly won six of their last seven.

The Clippers had a hiccup but still managed to move up one rung. After a stunning fourth-quarter collapse against the Lakers, Kawhi Leonard and Co. recovered to smash the Washington Wizards and eke out a one-point win over the Timberwolves in Minneapolis.

There was also movement at the other end of the spectrum, where the Spurs enjoyed consecutive wins — over the Thunder and Indiana Pacers — for the first time since January. The Portland Trail Blazers showed signs of life as well, beating the Memphis Grizzlies on their home floor on consecutive nights. The Washington Wizards, meanwhile, have practically locked themselves into last-place residency by going 0-for-February, part of a 14-game losing streak that remains alive and (not so) well.

If you’ve been keeping up with the latest travel trends, it will come as no surprise to you that things have really started to pick up for air travel, especially at MCO.

With so many changes to the Orlando International Airport, new flight routes and destinations added, and even more international travel in the works, it’s hard to imagine how they could pack any more people into the airport. But, if you’re going to be traveling to Disney World this spring, this is the ONE post you need to pay attention to!

We hope you’ve got some extra room in your suitcase for your patience if you’re traveling soon because you’re going to need it. According to the Orlando Business Journal, MCO is anticipating record-setting numbers for traffic in and out of the airport for the upcoming spring break season.

Orlando International Airport is anticipating a whopping 7.6 million passengers traveling for the holiday during a 44-day stretch from February 23rd through April 7th, 2024. If these numbers become reality, this would mean that MCO saw an 11% increase from the prior year’s travel numbers between the same stretch of spring break season.

But for Kevin Thibault, the CEO of the Greater Orlando Aviator Authority, these numbers didn’t just come out of the blue and spike. He believes “this growth is actually a continuation of what we saw in 2023.”

We’ve also kept up with things like low-cost airlines, pricing and sales, advanced planning, and newly added routes, all of which seem to be contributing to making air travel easier for more people than before.

If you’re really itching to know the busiest days to travel (to potentially avoid them) soon, we’re keeping a close eye on Easter Sunday. The holiday will fall on March 31st this year and is expected to be the eighth-busiest travel day of the spring season. The three busiest days of spring for MCO are expected to be March 16th, 23rd, and 31st, 2024, with the highest projected passenger numbers expected to exceed over 197,000 in a single day.

If you’re headed to Disney in the next few weeks, make sure you’re prepared for a much busier airport in Orlando. We’re always looking to stay ahead of the travel chaos, so be sure to stay tuned with us at All Ears for even more travel tips, tricks, and trends!
