Some residents in a small unincorporated Orange County community want to become part of Winter Garden.
One Tildenville resident is helping lead the push to make her town part of the city.
"Tildenville is a little country town that sits on the west side of Winter Garden," said Deloris Ginns, a resident born and raised in Tildenville.
"If you blink your eye, you're going to miss it," she said. "Because it's just that small. But it's beautiful."
She's part of the Tildenville Neighborhood Association. And she's pushing to see her unincorporated community become part of Winter Garden.
"We're put on the back burner for a lot of things. For a lot," she said.
She believes becoming a part of the city of Winter Garden could lead to more services and resources in Tildenville.
"I'm looking at splash pads. I'm looking at a whole lot to offer this community. To offer the children of this community," Ginns said.

But she's only interested in the move if it's on the town's terms.
"You're not coming in telling us what you want us to have. We're telling you what we need," she said.
And Winter Garden commissioner Ron Mueller is on the same page.
"What we need to do is listen," Mueller said. "They know what they need. We just need to provide the tools and the resources to make that happen."
Mueller says the city has annexed towns before. Adding in East Winter Garden just last year. And he thinks there are all kinds of resources they could bring to Tildenville.
"We're talking to the public library system here. We're looking at a Boys & Girls home in the future out here, along with a community action center here," Mueller said.
WESH spoke to some people in town who didn't want to talk on camera but weren't crazy about becoming a part of Winter Garden. Mueller says they'll have a say in what happens.
"It always should be the voice of the people of Tildenville," he said. "We will leave it to them. We will give them the facts and the information."
And with the information Ginns' has, she thinks joining Winter Garden is what's best for her community.
"I wanna see the people have something that they can be proud of," she said. "To say, 'I'm from Tildenville.'"
Mueller says in order for Tildenville to be annexed into Winter Garden, it would need the green light from both the county and the city.

“It infringes on basic newsgathering for putting together a story,” said Norine Dworkin, editor-in-chief of VoxPopuli, a nonprofit news site based in Winter Garden.

Government attorney Cliff Shepard said, as far as he knows, there are no other municipalities in Central Florida with these kinds of restrictions on journalists, and it’s unusual for there to be an distinction on who can talk during public comment.
“I’ve often used the public comment section of city commission meetings when officials have not responded to me via email or phone call,” Dworkin said.
That most recently happened during the commission meeting on June 22. A few days later, she got an email from City Manager Jon Williams stating she had violated the resolution and that if she continued, she could be banned from future meetings.

“We’re there to be the eyes and the ears of the public when they are not there themselves,” Dworkin said.
In a statement, the city manager said in part, “The City is happy to address Ms. Dworkin’s questions, however, during the proceedings of a City Commission meeting is not the appropriate time.”

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. — There is a unique ranch in Winter Garden called Soul Haven Ranch that invites anyone who wants to make a connection with miniature horses to come and visit.
What You Need To Know
Owner Susan Nastasi created the experience back in 2016 after working in the busy financial world for 25 years. She realized that most people have lost any connection with animals and the simple life on a ranch.
Nastasi had a love of horses, and so Soul Haven was born.
Guests simply call the Soul Haven Ranch and make a reservation for their small horse encounter.
“They got wonderful temperaments," Nastasi said. "And it gives people an opportunity to be around horses that might otherwise be intimidated by the big ones.”
Nastasi says there is a simple goal at the ranch.
“Let people kind of connect with them,” she said.
People come from around the world (there is also an Airbnb on property) to experience her My Day With a Miniature Horse program.
“We have had people from every continent visit the ranch here in Winter Garden, Florida,” she said.
The experience is a one-hour private encounter. Guests get to choose one of the miniature horses on the ranch and learn how to groom the animals. The experience allows visitors to walk the horses through an obstacle course that helps them gain a better understanding of the animals.
These same miniature horses serve and visit groups of children with special needs, hospitals, hospice and nursing homes.
The encounters are paid for by guests, so Nastasi can offer the horses for free around the community.
“The more opportunities we get to go out and serve children with special needs, geriatrics, hospice, veterans, the better. And it’s just a full circle thing,” she said.
One of the cool things about the ranch is its location to the West Orange trail. Guests can walk the miniature horses off the property and on to the trail.
“You know we hope to not only have our handlers enjoy being with the horses and promote some wellness. But we also like when we pass people on some bikes or walking," Nastasi said. "They share joy no matter where they go.”

Winter Garden, Florida, is a former citrus town incorporated in 1908. It is a beautiful, charming, and historic spot in Central Florida.
Located just west of the Orlando area on Lake Apopka, Winter Garden is known as the place “where good things grow”!
There are plenty of exciting activities and things to do in this part of the Sunshine State.

The Historic Edgewater Hotel
This historic hotel and bet and breakfast first opened in 1927 and was one of the safest and most technologically advanced of its time.
Originally, the hotel was primarily a winter hideaway for businessmen, housing for the Washington Senators during their Spring training and famous celebrities who visited Florida during the winter.
The hotel also housed the army during World War II in the 1940s.
In the 1960s and 70s, it was home to the crews working on creating Walt Disney World.
While the hotel closed its doors for a time, on November 8th, 2003, the Edgewater had a grand reopening after an extensive restoration.
Today, the owners have kept as much of the original experience and ambiance as possible while providing modern comforts such as A/C, TV, and internet.
However, you’ll still see antique sinks, fixtures, and even the original 1926 Otis Elevator.
As a Bed & Breakfast hotel, guests are offered a full breakfast modeled after the original breakfast menu from 1926, served by the innkeeper each morning.
The hotel also features a few great restaurants: The Thai Blossom (Thai cuisine), The Tasting Room (Tapas-style), and The Chef’s Table (fine dining).
Don’t miss Scoops Old Fashioned Ice Cream Store serving drinks, floats, and Hershey’s ice cream.
If you need a haircut, stop by Earl Brigham’s old-style Barbershop within the hotel. Earl has been Winter Garden’s beloved barber for over 50 years!

The Garden Theatre
Originally built as a single-screen cinema in 1935, The Garden was the very first of its kind in Central Florida for “talkies” or talking pictures.
The theatre quickly became a gathering place for the Winter Garden locals to watch newsreels and films of the day.
The theatre’s interior was built in the Mediterranean Revival style, with a Spanish courtyard featuring Romeo & Juliet balconies, a Spanish tile roof, and a blue ceiling featuring stars.
Unfortunately, the theater closed in 1963. However, it reopened in 2008 through the efforts of the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation.
It now showcases over 200 events per season and is a great spot to see live plays, concerts, movies, and more.
This intimate venue has 295 seats, and some of its productions fill up quickly. We suggest booking your tickets in advance if you plan on seeing a show.
Upcoming shows for the 2023 season include Every Brilliant Thing, Sweet Dreams: The Air Supply Musical, and Always… Patsy Cline.

Plant Street Market
One of our favorite hot spots in Winter Garden is Plant Street Market. This local artisan community market features over 20 vendors selling everything from food and drinks to handmade products.
While shopping and eating, you can enjoy live entertainment and a pet-friendly patio.
The Crooked Can Brewing Company, founded in 2014, is attached to the end of the market.
Crooked Can is a brewery with a tap, tasting room, and brewery tours, created as a social gathering place for family and friends.
Enjoy a craft beer or cider and their limited edition seasonal flavors.

Winter Garden Farmers Market
The Winter Garden Farmers’ Market has quickly grown into a community landmark. It’s in the heart of the beautiful downtown Winter Garden every Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm.
There’s a large selection of vendors, from fresh baked goods, locally grown produce, flowers, homemade soaps, and live music. Grab a potpie to go or a fancy mango on a stick.
Don’t forget to bring your friends (furry four-legged friends, too) and family to experience the Winter Garden Farmers’ Market. It’s one of the best in Florida.
