Understanding the Importance of Testosterone in Your Body

head-bottom

When people hear the word "testosterone," they often associate it with overly aggressive or macho men. However, testosterone really has little impact on a man's masculinity, at least from a social standpoint. Rather, testosterone plays a much more important role in male development, from puberty to the end of life.

As the primary androgen, testosterone helps men develop typical male characteristics and is vital for the production of sperm. The pituitary gland and hypothalamus in the body control testosterone, and it helps men develop and maintain various functions such as:

What Causes Low Testosterone?

head-bottom

As men age, they may experience lower levels of testosterone, also known as low T. This natural decline in testosterone can also be caused by drug abuse, obesity, prescribed medications, or testicle injuries. When testosterone levels decrease, it can affect the body's balance of testosterone and estrogen, leading to an increase in abdominal fat and higher levels of estrogen. This hormonal imbalance can lead to a variety of issues that, when left untreated, can affect your quality of life in several ways.

The most common low testosterone signs in males include the following:

  • Erectile Dysfunction or ED
  • Increased Amounts of Body Fat
  • Lack of Concentration
  • More Irritability
  • Low Libido
  • Low Sperm Count
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Decrease in Muscle Mass
  • Lack of Motivation

If one or more of those symptoms are happening in your life right now, it could be because your body has a lack of testosterone. The only way to find out for certain is to have your testosterone levels tested at a qualified Sexual Wellness and Holistic Clinic, such as NV Medical Celebration. If testing shows that you have low T, the next step in your recovery could be TRT in Celebration, FL.

The Risks of Living Life with Low Testosterone

head-bottom

Some men may think to themselves, "I don't have the time or patience to undergo TRT in Celebration, FL." While TRT treatments are quick, easy, and require no recovery time, we at NV Medical Celebration understand that this type of therapy is not for everyone. Some men choose to rough it through this stage in their life, despite available solutions. While that is certainly an option, if you're considering this route, you should know that more is at risk than low libido and lack of motivation.

As frustrating as those symptoms can be, living with low testosterone often results in more serious issues that risk the health of your vital organs. If you're on the fence about bringing your testosterone levels back within normal range, keep these health risks in mind.

Diabetes

Diabetes

For those who have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes or diabetes, it's possible that low testosterone levels could be a factor. Research has shown that men with low testosterone are more likely to develop diabetes as they age, and those with diabetes are also more likely to have low testosterone. Additionally, men with low T may struggle with insulin resistance. While testosterone replacement therapy won't cure diabetes, studies have suggested that men with healthy testosterone levels tend to have better blood sugar levels and a lower risk of obesity.

Heart Disease

Heart Disease

If a doctor has informed you that you have high blood pressure, you may be curious about its root cause. Could it be due to aging? Is it hereditary? Or is there another factor at play? Research has shown that men who have low levels of testosterone are more likely to develop cardiovascular diseases. When testosterone levels are low, red blood cell production is hindered, which can speed up the accumulation of plaque in your arteries. Over time, this plaque buildup can result in severe issues such as heart attacks and strokes.

Issues with Weight and Obesity

Issues with Weight and Obesity

Many men face the challenge of excess body fat as they age, which can be discouraging when you're trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Despite eating well and exercising regularly, stubborn fat around the waistline can be difficult to get rid of. However, it's important to note that low testosterone levels may be the underlying cause. Studies have shown a correlation between low T and obesity, as testosterone helps regulate metabolism by controlling insulin, glucose, and fat. The good news is that undergoing TRT in combination with proper diet and exercise can lead to weight loss and improved blood glucose and low-density cholesterol levels.

Anemia

Anemia

Anemia occurs when the body lacks or has dysfunctional red blood cells, resulting in reduced oxygen supply to organs. Men with low testosterone levels are at a higher risk of anemia since testosterone plays a role in healthy red blood cell production. A study conducted in 2009 revealed that older men with low T have five times more chances of being anemic compared to men with normal testosterone levels. Although testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) is not a cure for anemia, it can help in the production of more red blood cells, which may prevent anemia.

TRT in Celebration, FL: A Reliable Solution to Low Testosterone

head-bottom

To fully appreciate the advantages of testosterone replacement therapy from NV Medical Celebration, it's crucial to grasp its mechanism. Testosterone was first synthesized in a laboratory in 1935 and has been prescribed to counteract low testosterone levels in clinical settings ever since. Over the last few decades, it has emerged as one of the most commonly prescribed medications in the US.

TRT works by restoring a healthy testosterone level in men who suffer from low T. Essentially, TRT is similar to insulin for people who have diabetes. The body lacks sufficient production of an essential hormone, and so requires an exogenous source to replace it - testosterone in this case. Although most men begin TRT after the age of 50, more men in their 30s and 40s are having their testosterone levels tested at wellness clinics like NV Medical Celebration. If you're experiencing symptoms like ED but think you're too young for testosterone replacement therapy, it's worth having your T levels checked by a doctor.

Our TRT Process

As the name implies, TRT replaces the testosterone that your body is missing, so it can function as it should. Unlike some TRT clinics, however, our doctors and practitioners take a personalized, comprehensive approach to testosterone replacement therapy.

If you are experiencing symptoms that may indicate low testosterone levels, it is important to undergo a thorough evaluation, including a medical history and physical examination, as well as laboratory studies. After discussing the potential risks and benefits of testosterone therapy with your healthcare provider, a decision can be made about whether to proceed with treatment.

There are several methods for administering testosterone, such as a gel that is applied to the skin, injections, pellets that are placed under the skin, and a new oral pill that has recently become available. Once treatment begins, regular monitoring of your lab results is essential to ensure that the therapy is effective and to make any necessary adjustments based on additional factors. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms and are interested in exploring testosterone therapy, please reach out to NV Medical Celebration to schedule a private and confidential consultation with our Board-Certified Urologist.

Testosterone plays a key role in the production of red blood cells via the bone marrow. Insufficient levels of testosterone can result in various health issues for your muscles and organs, including cardiovascular problems that warrant attention.

However, a recent study involving more than 80,000 men revealed that individuals whose testosterone levels were brought into normal ranges were 36% less likely to suffer from a stroke. ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Right now across Central Florida, thousands of people are celebrating the Lunar New Year. It’s one of the biggest holidays for the people of Asia and the most celebrated on the Chinese calendar.

It is the Year of the Dragon and so many people are showing up to celebrate.

Mimi Chan helped organize Saturday’s Lunar New Year celebrations and opening ceremony in Orange County, where dozens took part in numerous traditions all to celebrate Asian culture, good fortune and usher in positivity.

“It is the most important holiday for a lot of Asia,” Chan said. “The firecrackers and the loud music (...) scares away all of the evil and the negativity.”

The opening ceremony Saturday was held at the Wah Lum Kung Fu Temple. Chan said it was built by her father.

“My father is from the southern part of China but he moved over here to live out that American dream,” Chan said.

Chan is also the director of Make Us Visible Florida and helped pass legislation last year to include Asian American and Pacific Islander history in the Florida’s public schools.

“As Asian Americans it’s important for us to celebrate our identity and also know that this is a very American tradition now,” Chan said.

Many people said it’s important for the younger generation to see and help carry on these traditions

“It helps us spread the culture and also helps other people learn about this culture,” said 14-year-old Evelyn Lam.

“For the future generation too to recognize tradition and all of that and it’s important,” said 14-year-old Jade Leaf.

Located just 15 minutes from the Walt Disney World Resort, the town of Celebration is a charming and quaint town originally developed by the Walt Disney Company as a master-planned community. The town is actually connected to the Walt Disney World resorts via one of its main streets, World Drive, which begins near Magic Kingdom. Today, this central Florida town is equal parts residential community and tourist destination. It's also the perfect little, small town to explore on your next date night.

The main hub of activity, Celebration Town Center, is a walkable downtown packed with restaurants, coffee shops, and boutique shops located along Market Street and Front Street. Beyond the main thoroughfare, you'll find a weekly farmer's market, quiet paved walking trails, boardwalks, and more.

Plan the ideal date night in Celebration with our favorite activities listed below.

Updated January 2024 by Meghan Roth.

1. Hit the trails

Celebration's small size makes it ideal for exploring on foot. Park your car along the street (there's plenty of free parking) and make your way to the intersection of Market Street and Front Street. From here, you can walk along the main paved trail, which leads to several small boardwalks. Eventually, the trail leads to quiet residential streets which are just as fun to explore.

Even though you're within the neighborhood of Kissimmee, Florida, you won't feel like it.

2. Visit the farmers market

Peruse fresh produce, foods, and local goods every Sunday from 10am-2pm (Winter Hours) at the Celebration Farmers Market. An assortment of vendors set up shop each week along Market Street and Front Street.

While Celebration's Farmers' Market does not typically have as much fresh produce as other farmers' markets in Orlando, it's still a fun thing to do. Stick around for brunch or lunch after the market for a complete morning date.

3. Savor something sweet

If you've both got a sweet tooth, Kilwin's is a staple of the area. This ice cream shop is always bustling with a healthy mix of locals and tourists. Try a chocolate malt milkshake or a scoop of ice cream in a waffle cone (I love the Kilwin's Mud flavor).

Next door you'll find Le Macaron, a French bakery specializing in macarons. Soak up the Parisian inspired décor, chocolates almost too beautiful to eat, and creative macaron flavors like lavender white chocolate (my personal favorite).

The café playlist adds to the ambiance. They've also got fabulous gelato in an assortment of flavors, although I'm partial to the pistachio.

While you stroll the main street with your sweet treat in hand take note of the work of the architects, the style of the buildings, and the nearby public parks. You might even notice inspiration from famous architects, Michael Graves and Philip Johnson. Celebration's master plan is intended to mix relaxing green space with shopping, dining, and office space.

4. Rent bikes

While the main street of Celebration is very walkable, there are other acres of land to explore if you want to see the neighborhoods and squares. Bring along your own bikes to explore on two wheels, or rent bikes on Bloom Street (around the corner from the Bohemian Hotel).

The trails are mixed use although the trail around the lake downtown is the busiest. Cruise around Celebration's quieter streets and paths for a more leisurely ride.

FYI: The bike rental stand is currently self-service. You'll pay online with your phone and will receive a lock combination for your bike.

Celebration Bike Rental also offers guided bike tours and walking tours to learn about the history of the area.

5. Pack a picnic

For a totally free date night, pack your own picnic basket with goodies and set up a waterfront picnic at Celebration Lakeside Park. There's plenty of space to spread out a blanket, and the further you follow the paved walking trails, the more secluded you'll feel. I recommend visiting right before sunset.

If you prefer to grab something to go, stop by Cornerstone Market & Deli, Upper Crust Pizza, or Little Greek (5 minutes outside of town).

6. Spend the night

Soak up all of the idyllic charm and extend your date night in Celebration by spending the night. Bohemian Hotel Celebration is located on the water amidst all of the action downtown. Amenities include an onsite art gallery, a romantic lounge and restaurant, lakeside pool, and more.

This charming boutique hotel isn't just for visitors on vacation, it makes a great staycation for Orlando residents too! Pets are welcome for an additional fee.

If you're a sporty couple you can make time to enjoy the splendid golf course just down the road. And spend some time along Celebration Avenue which is along Highway 192 with famous chain restaurants.

7. Raise a glass

No visit to Celebration is complete without a stop at Celebration Town Tavern. This local institution is the best place in town to sip on craft beers, feast on pub fare, and relax with friends. There are two spacious bars and plenty of covered outdoor patio seating.

You can even enjoy zero proof cocktails and frozen drinks!

Lakeside Bar + Grill (located inside the Celebration Hotel) is fantastic for wine or craft cocktails. The romantic lakeside location provides a lovely view while you wine and dine. If you're exploring Celebration in the morning or afternoon, consider stopping in for brunch which is served daily until 3pm.

8. Make reservations for a romantic dinner

While Celebration has many budget-friendly options and free activities, it's also home to a variety of restaurants worthy of your best date night ensemble.

Imperium Food & Wine is a cozy wine bar with indoor/outdoor seating, a selection of 80+ wines available by the glass or bottle, and a variety of wine cocktails. The menu includes an assortment of light bites, flatbreads and savory entrees.

Another notable spot, Columbia is a local Spanish/Cuban chain located on Front Street. Think old world décor, white tablecloths, and authentic Spanish dishes. The “1905” Salad is a must-try signature dish tossed tableside and named after the year Columbia Restaurant's original location in Ybor City was founded.

There's a spacious covered patio if you prefer to dine outdoors.

For something a little more casual, check out Posto Pizza. Their menu is filled with specialty and craft pizzas along with salads, sandwiches, and desserts. Try the Posto Pizza (Italian plum tomato sauce, Grande mozzarella, muenster cheese, roasted peppers, caramelized onions, spinach, shaved prime brisket, and chimichurri) with a glass of red wine or a local craft beer.

9. Meet for breakfast

Feel like changing up your date night routine? Make morning reservations for breakfast instead of dinner. Get your fill of biscuits and other morning goodies from Maple Street Biscuit Company located just a few minutes drive from Celebration Town Center.

Or, make brunch reservations at Lakeside Bar + Grill, served daily until 3pm. Nosh on classics like avocado toast, a hearty brunch burger, stuffed French toast, pulled pork benedict, and more.

10. Attend an annual festival

Celebration also hosts a lineup of fun annual festivals. Most notable events in Celebration include an annual exotic car show (spring), Oktoberfest (October), plus annual nightly “snow” and a beautiful Christmas display during the holiday season from the end of November through December.

In its early years visitors would often remark that Celebration's pristine appearance and strict homeowners association reminded them of The Truman Show movie. Now that communities with such master planning are more common, residents remain proud, while visitors bask in the charm.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - The city of Tallahassee and Leon County are encouraging the local community to join them for a joint-celebration in honor of not only Florida A&M and Florida State University’s recent achievements, but for all community champions.

“This is not a celebration just for football,” said Mayor Pro-Tem Williams-Cox. “This is a celebration for all champions.”

During a Thursday morning livestream, Williams-Cox, along with other city and county officials, announced the city-wide celebration.

This announcement comes after FAMU’s football team and both Florida State’s football and women’s soccer team all made history on Saturday and Monday.

“We realize that we have some things that are happening in our city and that are just outstanding and cannot go unnoticed,” said Williams-Cox. “We are happy to be able to come together and present this celebration of champions.”

The Rattlers were declared the 2023 SWAC champions after defeating Prairie View A&M University 35-14 on Saturday. As a result, the Florida A&M football team will play in the Cricket Celebration Bowl for the first time ever on December 16.

The Seminoles also brought back good, historical news to the capital city. On Saturday, Florida State’s football team won the Atlantic Coast Conference championship for the first time since 2014 after defeating the Louisville Cardinals 16-6. They will face the Georgia Bulldogs on December 30 for the Orange Bowl.

On Monday, Florida State’s women’s soccer team secured the fourth NCAA Division I women’s national championship with a 5-1 win over Stanford, making them the first undefeated champion in over a decade.

“We are now considered Title Town USA right here in the city of Tallahassee,” said Tallahassee City Commissioner Curtis Richardson during the Thursday press conference.

The celebration will include a parade and is scheduled to take place January 15, 2024, according to Williams-Cox, which is the same day Martin Luther King Jr. Day is observed. Community members will also be invited to the Adderley Amphitheater at Cascades Park after the parade.

More details regarding the celebration are expected to be released January 1, according to Leon County Commissioner Bill Proctor.

“Mark your calendars. Save the date. It’s going to be a celebration of champions right here in Tallahassee,” said county commissioner Proctor.

Williams-Cox also mentioned the new upcoming year will mark Tallahassee and Leon County’s bicentennial celebration.

“We have 200 years behind us, about to be behind us, so we want to go into this 200th year differently, and we want to go in celebrating,” said Williams-Cox.
