Understanding the Importance of Testosterone in Your Body

head-bottom

When people hear the word "testosterone," they often associate it with overly aggressive or macho men. However, testosterone really has little impact on a man's masculinity, at least from a social standpoint. Rather, testosterone plays a much more important role in male development, from puberty to the end of life.

As the primary androgen, testosterone helps men develop typical male characteristics and is vital for the production of sperm. The pituitary gland and hypothalamus in the body control testosterone, and it helps men develop and maintain various functions such as:

What Causes Low Testosterone?

head-bottom

As men age, they may experience lower levels of testosterone, also known as low T. This natural decline in testosterone can also be caused by drug abuse, obesity, prescribed medications, or testicle injuries. When testosterone levels decrease, it can affect the body's balance of testosterone and estrogen, leading to an increase in abdominal fat and higher levels of estrogen. This hormonal imbalance can lead to a variety of issues that, when left untreated, can affect your quality of life in several ways.

The most common low testosterone signs in males include the following:

  • Erectile Dysfunction or ED
  • Increased Amounts of Body Fat
  • Lack of Concentration
  • More Irritability
  • Low Libido
  • Low Sperm Count
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Decrease in Muscle Mass
  • Lack of Motivation

If one or more of those symptoms are happening in your life right now, it could be because your body has a lack of testosterone. The only way to find out for certain is to have your testosterone levels tested at a qualified Sexual Wellness and Holistic Clinic, such as NV Medical Apopka. If testing shows that you have low T, the next step in your recovery could be TRT in Apopka, FL.

The Risks of Living Life with Low Testosterone

head-bottom

Some men may think to themselves, "I don't have the time or patience to undergo TRT in Apopka, FL." While TRT treatments are quick, easy, and require no recovery time, we at NV Medical Apopka understand that this type of therapy is not for everyone. Some men choose to rough it through this stage in their life, despite available solutions. While that is certainly an option, if you're considering this route, you should know that more is at risk than low libido and lack of motivation.

As frustrating as those symptoms can be, living with low testosterone often results in more serious issues that risk the health of your vital organs. If you're on the fence about bringing your testosterone levels back within normal range, keep these health risks in mind.

Diabetes

Diabetes

For those who have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes or diabetes, it's possible that low testosterone levels could be a factor. Research has shown that men with low testosterone are more likely to develop diabetes as they age, and those with diabetes are also more likely to have low testosterone. Additionally, men with low T may struggle with insulin resistance. While testosterone replacement therapy won't cure diabetes, studies have suggested that men with healthy testosterone levels tend to have better blood sugar levels and a lower risk of obesity.

Heart Disease

Heart Disease

If a doctor has informed you that you have high blood pressure, you may be curious about its root cause. Could it be due to aging? Is it hereditary? Or is there another factor at play? Research has shown that men who have low levels of testosterone are more likely to develop cardiovascular diseases. When testosterone levels are low, red blood cell production is hindered, which can speed up the accumulation of plaque in your arteries. Over time, this plaque buildup can result in severe issues such as heart attacks and strokes.

Issues with Weight and Obesity

Issues with Weight and Obesity

Many men face the challenge of excess body fat as they age, which can be discouraging when you're trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Despite eating well and exercising regularly, stubborn fat around the waistline can be difficult to get rid of. However, it's important to note that low testosterone levels may be the underlying cause. Studies have shown a correlation between low T and obesity, as testosterone helps regulate metabolism by controlling insulin, glucose, and fat. The good news is that undergoing TRT in combination with proper diet and exercise can lead to weight loss and improved blood glucose and low-density cholesterol levels.

Anemia

Anemia

Anemia occurs when the body lacks or has dysfunctional red blood cells, resulting in reduced oxygen supply to organs. Men with low testosterone levels are at a higher risk of anemia since testosterone plays a role in healthy red blood cell production. A study conducted in 2009 revealed that older men with low T have five times more chances of being anemic compared to men with normal testosterone levels. Although testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) is not a cure for anemia, it can help in the production of more red blood cells, which may prevent anemia.

TRT in Apopka, FL: A Reliable Solution to Low Testosterone

head-bottom

To fully appreciate the advantages of testosterone replacement therapy from NV Medical Apopka, it's crucial to grasp its mechanism. Testosterone was first synthesized in a laboratory in 1935 and has been prescribed to counteract low testosterone levels in clinical settings ever since. Over the last few decades, it has emerged as one of the most commonly prescribed medications in the US.

TRT works by restoring a healthy testosterone level in men who suffer from low T. Essentially, TRT is similar to insulin for people who have diabetes. The body lacks sufficient production of an essential hormone, and so requires an exogenous source to replace it - testosterone in this case. Although most men begin TRT after the age of 50, more men in their 30s and 40s are having their testosterone levels tested at wellness clinics like NV Medical Apopka. If you're experiencing symptoms like ED but think you're too young for testosterone replacement therapy, it's worth having your T levels checked by a doctor.

Our TRT Process

As the name implies, TRT replaces the testosterone that your body is missing, so it can function as it should. Unlike some TRT clinics, however, our doctors and practitioners take a personalized, comprehensive approach to testosterone replacement therapy.

If you are experiencing symptoms that may indicate low testosterone levels, it is important to undergo a thorough evaluation, including a medical history and physical examination, as well as laboratory studies. After discussing the potential risks and benefits of testosterone therapy with your healthcare provider, a decision can be made about whether to proceed with treatment.

There are several methods for administering testosterone, such as a gel that is applied to the skin, injections, pellets that are placed under the skin, and a new oral pill that has recently become available. Once treatment begins, regular monitoring of your lab results is essential to ensure that the therapy is effective and to make any necessary adjustments based on additional factors. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms and are interested in exploring testosterone therapy, please reach out to NV Medical Apopka to schedule a private and confidential consultation with our Board-Certified Urologist.

Testosterone plays a key role in the production of red blood cells via the bone marrow. Insufficient levels of testosterone can result in various health issues for your muscles and organs, including cardiovascular problems that warrant attention.

However, a recent study involving more than 80,000 men revealed that individuals whose testosterone levels were brought into normal ranges were 36% less likely to suffer from a stroke. Having lower levels of testosterone can negatively impact one's quality of life, as it can lead to symptoms such as depression, fatigue, and irritability. However, studies have shown that this may only be true for men with hypogonadism, as men who experience a natural decrease in testosterone over time did not show an increase in depression.

Additionally, males with hypogonadism reported improvements in mood and well-being, as well as reduced fatigue and irritability. Some research has even suggested that this treatment may be an effective form of anti-depressant therapy.

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – Six men — including an Apopka daycare employee — were arrested in a child predator sting out of Polk County, according to that county’s sheriff’s office.

In a release on Tuesday, deputies said the week-long undercover operation involved detectives posing as either children or parents on social media to “investigate those who prey upon and travel to meet children for unlawful sexual activity.”

At separate times throughout the investigation, all six men showed up to the undercover location in Polk County “to sexually batter children,” the release states.

Those arrested in the sting are as follows:

Jairo Muniz, 40 — Kissimmee

Deputies said that Muniz had been using social media to contact an undercover detective who posed as a 13-year-old girl.

During those conversations, Muniz — who is married with four daughters — discussed how he wanted to have sex with the supposed girl, buying condoms on his way to the undercover locations, the release shows.

He faces charges of traveling to meet a minor for sex, attempted lewd battery, transmission of harmful material to a minor, and using a two-way device to commit a felony. Muniz was released from jail on Sept. 24 after posting bond.

Timothy Wellman, 36 — Ohio

Wellman spoke online with a detective who posed as a 14-year-old girl, telling her she was “cute” and describing how he wanted to have sex with her, deputies said.

According to investigators, Wellman was divorced, and his two young children lived with his ex-wife. Wellman told detectives that he was telling his children goodnight while driving to the undercover location.

Wellman faces charges of traveling to meet a minor for sex, attempted lewd battery and using a two-way device to commit a felony.

Feras Klisli, 49 — Davenport

Klisli had discussed his desire to have sex with an undercover detective online who had posed as a 14-year-old girl, deputies said.

Detectives explained that Klisli was married with two adult children, and he worked as an Uber driver.

He faces charges of traveling to meet a minor for sex, attempted lewd battery and using a two-way device to commit a felony. Klisli was released from jail on Sept. 24 after posting bond.

Douglas Da Silva, 46 — Windermere

According to detectives, Da Silva used social media to contact an undercover agent who posed as an adult with “access to a 15-year-old female child.”

Da Silva asked whether the girl was a virgin, agreeing to pay $250 to have sex with her, deputies said.

Deputies added that Da Silva was married, and he worked as an Uber Eats driver while owning a house-cleaning business with his wife. Da Silva had only been in the country for four years and was still awaiting confirmation of his green card at the time of his arrest, the release shows.

He faces charges of traveling to meet a minor for sex, attempted lewd battery, using a two-way device to commit a felony and human trafficking.

Trevor Walker, 33 — Orlando

Similarly to Da Silva, Walker used social media to contact an undercover agent who posed as an adult with “access to a 15-year-old female child,” according to detectives.

The sheriff’s office announced that Walker had agreed to pay $400 to have sex with the child, mentioning the idea of it being a “sting” with “Grady Judd” during his conversations. Walker also told detectives that he worked at Publix distribution, the release says.

Walker faces charges of traveling to meet a minor for sex, attempted lewd battery, using a two-way device to commit a felony and human trafficking.

Douglas Cooley, 26 — Apopka

Cooley contacted an undercover agent who posed as an adult with “access to a 15-year-old female child,” detectives said.

According to the sheriff’s office, Cooley agreed to pay $100 to have sex with the child. Deputies added that Cooley worked at an after-school daycare in Apopka.

Cooley faces charges of traveling to meet a minor for sex, attempted lewd battery, using a two-way device to commit a felony and human trafficking.

POLK COUNTY, Fla. — Six Central Florida men are now facing charges after they were caught by Polk County Sheriff Deputies trying to have sex with minors.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd says they were arrested as part of a seven-day undercover operation.

During the operation, deputies posed as children or their guardians to investigate potential predators.

Video: 6 arrested in sexual predator sting, including Apopka after-school care employee Six Central Florida men are now facing charges after they were caught by Polk County Sheriff Deputies trying to have sex with minors. (WFTV)

“We will continue these operations. We’re going to protect the children not of only Polk County and of Florida, but around the country and around the world,” said Judd.

Three of the six suspects planned to pay an adult hundreds of dollars to have sex with minors– those three were charged with human trafficking, a life felony.

Together, the six men are facing 22 felony charges.

The suspects are:

- 40-year-old Jairo Muniz of Kissimmee, Fla.

- 36-year-old Timothy Wellman of Ohio (recently moved to Polk)

- 49-year-old Feras Klisli of Davenport, Fla.

- 46-year-old Douglas Da Silva of Windermere, Fla.

-33-year-old Trevor Walker of Orlando, Fla.

-26-year-old Douglas Cooley of Apopka, Fla.

One of the six men arrested, Douglas Cooley, was an after-school care employee who worked with students at Clay Springs Elementary in Apopka.

Cooley was not employed by Orange County Schools but he worked for Discover After School.

The aftercare company didn’t confirm how long Cooley was employed through them but did send us a statement addressing the arrest.

A spokesperson said that they have been cooperating with investigators and take this seriously.

In a statement, a spokesperson said, “Upon learning of Mr. Cooley’s arrest, we immediately terminated his employment and have been fully cooperating with law enforcement authorities.”

The statement also said Discover After School has a strict and comprehensive background screening process in place for all potential employees before they are hired.

According to that statement, the company’s primary concern is determining whether there were inappropriate interactions between Cooley and students in their care.

“Our commitment to the safety and security of our students is unwavering, and we continuously strive to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and ethics within our organization,” the statement reads in part.

According to an Orange County School District spokesperson, parents at Clay Springs Elementary were notified about Douglas Cooley’s arrest.

Discover After School Parent Martha Martinez told us she sends two children to the program at Clay Springs Elementary.

“It’s crazy, it’s scary,” said Martinez, “I received a call that someone got arrested, but other than that, I am just now knowing the details.”

Some parents we spoke to Tuesday evening still had questions about the details but told us they were disgusted by the news.

Wyld Oaks set to bring multi-family housing, shopping, dining, entertainment, hotel

APOPKA, Fla. – Work is now underway on a $1.2 billion development that’s expected to transform the northwest corner of Orange County.

Wyld Oaks is set to bring a mix of new multi-family housing, shopping, dining, entertainment and hotels to an area booming with single-family home development that was jumpstarted by the expansion of S.R. 429 and the opening of the Kelly Park Road interchange.

On the 255-acre property in Apopka, the remaining cattle and handful of citrus trees offer a reminder of what this region was once known for – agriculture and farming. Today, though, the Orlando sub-market is one of the fastest-growing cities in Central Florida.

[EXCLUSIVE: Become a News 6 Insider (it’s FREE) | PINIT! Share your photos]

“I think that where this project is located is going to be the epicenter of what will be occurring in the northwest part of Orange County,” Mayor Jerry Demings said. “Everybody knows it’s here now, and they want a part of it.”

During the groundbreaking ceremony for Wyld Oaks, developer Joseph Beninati gave perspective on just how massive his new project will be.

In total, the development will have up to 280,000 square feet of retail and outparcel space, 70,000 square feet of restaurant space, two hotels, between 3,000 to 4,000 multifamily and condominium residences, an outdoor entertainment venue, and a 10-acre park and preserve.

“Maybe a third of this project is the equivalent of Celebration or Baldwin Park or downtown Winter Park,” he said. “I think if half of this vision is realized, it could be something that’s remembered for decades here in Central Florida.”

In the next five years, Apopka’s population is expected to grow by 6.1% thanks in large part to the nearly 13,000 homes that will soon sprout in the Kelly Park Road corridor. With growth like that, demand for shops, restaurants and other amenities will be high, and Wyld Oaks plans to fill the retail gap.

“Throughout the week, people can walk to work, go to three restaurants, walk to the supermarket, cook at home on their own barbecue, go to a concert inside Wyld Oaks, and realize that six days later they’ve actually never turned on their car,” Beninati said. “That really doesn’t exist in Central Florida.”

There are several road projects all throughout the area to accommodate the new development. One of the more anticipated upgrades will be expanding Kelly Park Road from two lanes to four, which is set to begin later this year.

Full buildout for Wyld Oaks could take anywhere from five to 15 years, according to Beninati.

Calypso Coffee sources its beans from farmers back home

APOPKA, Fla. – At Calypso Coffee Bar in Apopka, the day starts strong for Natasha and Julisa Lopez.

From grinding coffee beans to making unique flavored coffee flights, the inspiration of making “café” dates back to the late 1800s in Guatemala.

“Our dad owns a coffee farm in Guatemala. We kind of decided to combine the two. I’ve been a barista for three years and we were like let’s open a coffee shop,” Natasha said.

The sisters opened the business only two months ago with the help of their father, Elder Lopez, who migrated to the U.S. in 1985.

[EXCLUSIVE: Become a News 6 Insider (it’s FREE) | PINIT! Share your photos]

“Dad came here at the age of 19 to give up that citizenship from Guatemala to come here and make his own future. So, we are kind of giving back to Dad,” Natasha said.

[Entrevista con Julisa y Natasha Lopez sobre Calypso Cafe]

The family farm called “Bethel” is located between the Guatemala and Honduras border.

However, it’s not just about brewing delicious coffee for customers. Julisa said their business is also getting results by purchasing the coffee beans directly from the Bethel farmers in an effort to help their families.

Julisa said it’s all about helping one another despite being thousands of miles away.

“We’ve seen a lot of people say that they give back and so my dad being a farmer and having generations of farmers, they don’t really see the pay, so a lot of them live in poverty, and we are lucky we get to buy coffee for a certain amount of price, but they don’t see any of that profit,” Julisa explained.

Calypso Coffee Bar is located at 1466 Rock Springs Rd. in Apopka.
